“Speaking the Truth in Love”

“...but speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ…”

Ephesians 4:15

From the Pastor’s Pen…

“Watch Your Mouth”

As a child growing up I would sometimes say things that my mother did not approve. When-ever that happened, my mother would say “watch your mouth.” What she meant was, I said something out of line and I should never

say it again. Well, as a Christian man and minister, the words of my mother still ring in my ears. Espe-cially when I say something that is not godly. In James 3:6, we can see that “the tongue is a fire.” And in verse five we are told that the tongue is a “little member” but it can damage the whole body.

I am reminded of one of Flip Wilson’s favorite char-acters, Rev. Leroy. While in this character Wilson would say, “loose lips, sink ships.” These words are

very true, even at this present moment.

What we say can cause others to fall. What we say can hurt many and even destroy lives. What we say will eventually destroy us.

On the other hand when we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us to use words to build up and encourage, everyone around us will be blessed, including us. According to Proverbs, a kind word will even turn away wrath. It is my prayer that we will use our tongues to the glory of God.

Happy Mothers Day

The dearest gifts that heaven holds,

The very finest, too,

Were made into one pattern

That was perfect, sweet, and true;

The Angels smiled, well-pleased, and

said:

“Compared to all the others,

This pattern is so wonderful

Let’s use it just for Mothers!”

And through the years a mother has

been

All that’s sweet and good

For there’s one bit of God and love,

In all true Motherhood.

When it’s wise to wait, Psalm 130:1-8. Timing is

critical in business, science, and sports. It’s also essen-

tial in a believer’s life. In order to keep in step with the

Lord, we need to carry out His instructions in accord-

ance with His timetable.

In God’s kingdom, waiting means seeking further di-

rection from Him while remaining in our present cir-

cumstances. It encompasses both an attitude of expec-

tance, “God, what would You like me to do?” and

one of readiness, “God, I am willing to do as You di-

rect.” It is our wisest course of action because we will:

Receive Direction. Too often, we make decisions

based on the influence of our friends or culture. But

God is the only source of true wisdom. He knows all

things and answers us on the basis of His complete

understanding. He is willing to give us clear direction

for any decisions we are trying to make, large or small.

He wants the very best for us in our personal life,

whether the issue is marriage, school, business, or

friendships. (Psalm 32:8).

Get onto His Timetable. God will also use the wait-

ing period to bring us in line with His perfect timing.

To others, it may appear as if we are delaying unneces-

sarily. However, knowing we are walking in concert

with God will bring His divine peace to our hearts.

Be Prepared for His Answer and Course of Action.

God may use a season of waiting to help us recognize

ungodly motives and sin, and to strengthen our faith.

Acting wisely begins with hearing from the Lord.

When was the last time you waited to receive direction

from Him?

Wellness News

Eat well to sleep well! A high-fiber, low-sugar, low-saturated fat diet may

help you catch more zzz’s. “If every health benefit of a plant-based, whole-

foods diet were a guest at a wedding, you’d probably have to rent a bigger tent. The

most recently identified guest to show up, unexpected but welcome, is better sleep.

(As usual, she looks glowing and well-rested!) In a small clinical study, researchers

found that a nourishing diet, high in fiber and low in both sugar and saturated fat,

led to falling asleep faster and sleeping more deeply. “The results of this study are

important because there is currently very little scientifically based information about eating for better sleep, notes

Cleveland Clinic sleep specialist Michelle Drerup, PsyD. More research is needed to confirm the link, in particular

for people who have trouble sleeping, says Drerup. But there’s no need to wait for confirmation to align your

plate with the principles in the study. Vegetables and fruit, lentils and beans, intact (not stripped) grains like brown

rice and quinoa, and nutritious fats from salmon, ocean trout and avocados all fit the bill. You’ll set yourself up for

good health on any number of fronts, including a lower risk of inflammation and cardiovascular disease.

A good leader surrounds himself or herself with honest, trustworthy counselors … and then listens to them. “Righteous lips are the delight of a king, and he loves him who speaks what is right” (Proverbs 16:13). Do you know leaders who surround themselves with “yes” people? Personal insecurity drives them to seek only posi-tive reinforcement for every decision they make. A smart leader surrounds himself or herself with smarter people, who are willing to speak their minds and offer sound counsel. After all, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22). ~Brent Rinehart (Crosswalk.com)
