Francisco - We have to make a decision soon! People are starting to get angrier and

angrier the more we wait!

Cristina - For me its decided. We must implement a dictatorship. Its the most

effective way to rule this new country.

Bia - Dictatorship? Whats that?

C - A dictatorship is a monocratic and severe form of government which is ruled eitherby an individual or by a small group of people. In this form of government, the power

rests entirely on the person or group of people that have the power to govern without

the consent of the citizens and if contradicted, its usually settled with severe

repercussion. This power is maintained by use of intimidation, terror, and the

suppression of basic rights and the dictator may also take away as much of peoples

freedom as he sees fit. Its unrestricted by law, constitutions, or other social and

political factors. Is a form of government that it can be obtained by force or birthright.

New dictators come into power when the established patriarch dies from natural

causes, is overthrown, or is murdered, leaving the progeny, usually the son, to rule.

F - I dont agree with you because that kind of regime wont make people happy.

C - But making people happy isnt the job of the government! Our job is to make

people safe and try to give them the best conditions of living that they can have.

Humans are unstable creatures and theyre hard to control, thatswhy I support a

dictatorship. We must make people protected.

B - Well, Iman optimist, you see. I dont think humans are as evil as you think they

are. I believe that if we let them walk freely they wont turn into monsters. I believe ina regime that has its principles based in the concept of freedom.

F- Why do you think that that is the best regime?

B-

F- I dont agree with any of you. Both of you are extreme. From my point of view, we

shouldnt let people walk freely because they will think that their acts wont have

consequences and they will turn on each other, causing war. In the other way, I dont

think that over control them is the solution. They will feel their rights violated and theywill insurgent.

C- So what do you propose?

F- I propose a democracy.

B- what is that?

F- .

CIm sorry but that is absurd! Can you tell me in what way is that the most suitable

way to rule this land?

FWith democracy, people have the opportunity to choose their leader and they can

also be involved in the way that this new country is ruled. They can walk freely in the

streets and they will have freedom of speech. However, if anyone commits a criminal

act, they will be punished adequately with an effective and ethical sentence.

BSentence? Are you crazy!? Our people need to know that their freedom is absolute

and they can do whatever they want without being punished or else they will be

scared that if they do anything they will end locked up!

FYou need to understand that peoples freedom needs to be restrained. Someones freedom

ends where the other one begins.

CFreedom? Ethical sentences? You are both insane! If people think they have even a shred

of freedom they will wander around thinking they have the right to be anyone. They only have

the right to do what we tell them to do. Its outrageous to think that they have the ability to

improve their lives on their own. When I walk on the street they cant look at me unless I look

at them, they cant talk to me unless I approach them. They need to know who their leader is

and they have to respect him.

BIf we were all to think like you, this world would be a mess. Can you imagine what would

be like if every single person in this planet lived in those conditions?

CYes! It would be like paradise!

BWhat? No! People would probably feel like animals in a cage and eventually they would try

to break out. Then all hell would break loose!

F- But if we dont punish them, they will get the sense that every crime is acceptable to

commit. We have to implement laws to prevent crimes from happening, and at the same time

to give the sense of freedom to people. Can you imagine if all the inhabitants of our land

decided to commit murder? It would be slaughter if there werent any measures to prevent it

from happening.

B- Oh, I understand you now. We have to make laws, for example, laws against murder,

robbery and so many others. I also think that we must give the same amount of money to

everyone, so that our goods are distributed fairly.

F- I dont agree with you. We cant give the same capital to everyone. We have to make them

earn that money, we have to provide them with the same opportunities to receive such

money.

C- In my opinion, I have total and absolute control of the money, I only give them what I want

to, and if I think that they dont deserve it, they wont see a dime.

B- Youre so mean Cristina! You will never have the respect of your people if you treat them

that bad.

F- I agree, in my opinion, people shouldnt be afraid of their government the government

should be afraid of their people.

C- But we cant forget to implement a law that doesnt allow them to affront me!Severe

measures must be taken if they dare to stand in my way. After all, I am their leader.

BNo, I am their leader!

FNo, I am!

B- Calm down! We clearly cant make a decision. I think we should let our people vote.

F- I totally agree with you. Thats one of the principles of democracy.

C- I cant let you do that. Since I was a child I wanted to rule a country, make people fear me,

respect me. I tried to win elections, but nobody voted for me. People, including my family, who

didnt support my way of thinking, thought that with my defeat my thirst of power would

vanish, but it only grew more and more (saca da pistola e aponta para bia e chico) Im going tohave to do something about you, and I bet you wont like it.

B- Cmon Cristina, you cant be serious about it! You cant kill us, people will uprise It will be

chaos! Think about our families, our friends Please dont kill us over your greed of power.

C-I dont givea damn to your families, they will survive.

B- Put the gun down Cristina, dont do something you will regret.

F- Yes, put the gun down and we will forgive you.

C- But I dont want forgiveness! I want power! Havent you understood it yet? Im tired of this

conversation, I have better things to do. (mata-os ahhaha e ri-se maquiavelicamente)
