Pronouns

Pronouns are words that tell us who is performing any given action.

I go to the store

She eats pizza

We live in France

As you have noticed, there are two different ways to say you.

● Tú● Usted

● Tú○ Friends or people we are familiar with○ Children

● Usted○ People we are not very familiar with○ When we want to show respect○ People a lot older than us

Pronouns

There are no strict rules about when to use tú and when to use usted.

In Spain, people tend to use tú more often, whereas in Latin countries usted is used most of the time, sometimes even with friends.

Note that there is no pronoun for it in Spanish.

Because verbs in Spanish have more information than English verbs, we don’t really need it!

We will come back to this topic when we learn about Spanish verbs.

● Nosotras○ Group of all females

Pronouns

Vosotros is the plural form of tú. Therefore, we would use to talk about a group of friends or people younger than us.

Please note that vosotros is only used in Spain nowadays.

All the other Spanish speaking countries always use ustedes, even when talking about a group of friends or younger people.
