COURSE DESCRIPTION

Spanish 1 is designed to build upon the Spanish skills learned and the confidence

developed in Lower School Spanish. We will work our way through the Spanish Speaking

world, picking up as much as we can about the language and the culture!

The course strives to provide a solid foundation of concepts from which students will be

able to draw in 7th and 8th grade and even secondary school.

Details

The class will meet for 1 hour/3 days a week. Each student will have their own online

student portal in which they are able to access resources, watch videos, read articles,

and complete practice exercises at their own pace. The course will include practice

homework, regular assessments, and collaborative group projects.

Objectives

1. To develop strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in the present tense

2. To expose students to Hispanic communities within the United States, and

broaden their understanding of the nation’s history and geography

3. To gain an appreciation for Spanish speaking cultures outside of our own nation

4. To develop self-assurance and enjoyment from actively conversing in another language

5. To apply new concepts in order to discuss our everyday lives, talking about ourselves,

our school day, our families, and our free time activities

Skills

This course will introduce the concept of verb conjugation to all present tense regular

verbs and a few irregulars, including ser and estar. It will also cover descriptive and

possessive adjectives.
