Vitoria’s origins go back to 1181 when KingSancho VI founded a walled town toprotect the Kingdom of Navarre. Todaythere are many reasons to go there. Themedieval quarter is one of the best historiccentres preserved in the north of Spain!You will discover a rich history, such as thechurches dating from the Gothic period,and the several palaces which reflect thesplendour of the Renaissance. The Baroquestyle also left its mark, with a specialmention for the Church of San Miguel.

Vitoria has harmoniously combined itshistoric past and modernity. Theneoclassical urban expansion to the southis characterised by the many balconieswhich overlook the bustling streets,adorned by the works of numerous Basquesculptors. The medieval quarter and the districts ofthe centre, Gorbea, Avenida and Lakua arethe main shopping areas.
