Space Dynamics Laboratory - Providing defense-critical engineering and

technology capabilities as the Missile Defense Agency’s University Affiliated

Research Center.

Established at Utah State University (USU) in 1959, SDL is a

not-for-profit unit of the USU Research Foundation. In its

UARC role as a strategic US Department of Defense

research center, SDL is charged with maintaining

and advancing essential technologies:

• Electro-optical sensor systems research and development

- Innovative sensor components and systems

- Cryo-system thermal design, development, and handling

- Data processing, handling, and analysis

- Program management

- Sensor calibration, characterization, test and evaluation

• Ground, airborne, and space rated instrument and sensor development,

integration, validation, and operations

• Data compression/decompression and data visualization for sensor

analysis, data exploitation, and data fusion

• Phenomenology measurements, modeling and simulation

• Sensor modeling and simulation

• Small/micro satellite sensor systems and components

Collaboration with university educational and research resources across a

broad range of disciplines augments SDL’s ability to accomplish breakthrough

engineering innovation while operating free from real or perceived conflicts of

interest as a trusted liaison between government and industry.
