7th Annual Saratoga Lions DuathloonSARATOGA SPRINGS – The Saratoga Springs Lions Club Foundation, Inc. is hosting the 7th Annual Saratoga Lions Duathlon on Sunday, May 29, on the Skidmore College Campus in Saratoga Springs. Participants will tackle a 5k run, followed by a 20-mile bike ride, ending with another 5k run. Race start time is scheduled for 8am. Participants can be individual, two person teams or three person teams. Area businesses can also participate with a three-person team in the corporate challenge category. Proceeds from this event will further the Foundation’s work in sight and hearing conservation, diabetes, community and youth programs. Open Meeting Law UpdateSARATOGA – Public offi cials, community leaders, and the community at large are invited to attend Let the Sun Shine, an informational program designed to update attendees on the Open Meeting Law. Co-sponsored by The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County, The Saratogian news-paper, and the Saratoga Public Library, the session will feature well-known advocate Robert Freeman, Executive Director of the Committee on Open Government. It will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 7pm at the Saratoga Public Library. Recent amendments to the so-called Sunshine Law include regulations regarding adequate space accommodations for attendees, chang-es in meeting locations, the role of the courts, and the recording of public meetings. Saratoga Hospital Volunteer Guild Offers ScholarshipsSARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga Hospital Volunteer Guild is again offering three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Saratoga County who are planning to enter a col-lege curriculum in a medical fi eld including, but not limited to, pre-med, nursing, bio-medical research, pharmacy, medi-cal technology, X-ray technology, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, physician’s assistant, mental health, occupational ther-apy, and health care management. The senior must be entering a college program in a medical fi eld in September 2011, have a cumulative high school average of 80% or higher, and have a record of interest and involvement in community service. Ap-plication forms are available at the Guidance Offi ce of all area high schools or from the Volunteer Offi ce of Saratoga Hospital 583-8447. The application deadline is April 5, 2011. (P)
