2-4 Principles
2-4-1 Photography principlesSlit light which enters the cornea gets through it and reaches the aqueous humor. Part of the light is reflectedon the front of the cornea in the boundary whose refraction index is different. When the light reflected on the backside of the cornea is magnified, it can be observed as an image, becausethe cells on the backside of the cornea are uneven.
Arrange the illumination system (I) and the photography system (P) so that the normal line which is perpen-dicular to the cornea may divide into I and P equally. Consequently the light is reflected on the backside ofthe cornea. Move the instrument while keeping the angles of I and P uniform so that the normal line maydivide into I and P equally. So the front reflection of the cornea (S'-S) and the backside reflection of the cor-nea (endothelium cells R'-R) can be observed.
2-4-2 Corneal thickness measurement principlesSlit light is slantingly emitted for the patient's cornea and the light reflected by the front and backside of thecornea is brought in by the line sensor. The corneal thickness is calculated by using the interval (L) between the front reflection image and backsidereflection image on the line sensor.

2-4-3 Photographed position detection functionXY detection function: This function focuses the spot XY LED ray reflected on the cornea on XY sensor to
detect the XY shift and direction.
Z detection function : Slit light as illumination light is brought into the cornea. As mentioned above, whenthe spot XY LED ray is brought into the XY sensor, the light is turned on and thefront reflection (S'-S) and the backside reflection (endothelium cells R'-R) are done.Electrically the Z sensor detects the position of the front reflection.Automatic alignment is done according to the detection results of the XY detectionand Z detection. When the XY alignment and Z alignment are in the OK range, pho-tographing is done automatically.

3-4-14 Adjustment of the xenon light intensity[Purpose] Adjust the charging voltage of the xenon tube lighting condenser. Unless this adjustment is done
correctly, the brightness of the photographed endothelium image is different between the instru-ments.
[Procedure] While the power is OFF, set VR201 of the I/O PCB to the medium position.Set the tool base and the Z projection system tool B.Connect the BNC video cable from the VIDEO OUT terminal to the oscilloscope. Set theinstrument so that you can observe one horizontal synchronization section.Turn on the power. When the photography result display appears, observe the luminancelevel of one horizontal synchronization section on the sample chart for 2000 through oscillo-scope.If the luminance level is out of the standard, adjust VR201 again, perform photography andcheck the luminance level.Repeat this procedure until the luminance level is within the standard. The VIDEO signallevel in "FLASH HIGH" should be a reference value. The light intensity is increased by turning the volume clockwise.
Standard: In "FLASH LOW" : V = 550mV ~ 600mVIn "FLASH HIGH": (V = 825mV ~ 900mV)

3-4-15 Storing of the corneal thickness correction value[Purpose] Store the correction value which is to be used for the final correction calculation in EEPROM so
that the absolute accuracy of the corneal thickness can be ensured.
[Procedure] Set the corneal thickness test eyes (three test eyes with different thickness) onto the chinrestunit.Select "GROUP-B PACHOMETRY ADJUST" in the "FACTORY MENU" program. The corneal thickness of the test eye as a reference is displayed on the monitor screen asshown below. Change the value with the [Chinrest up/down] switches and change the digitwith the selector switch to adjust finely in order to get the corneal thickness of the test eye tobe measured.
By using the [Image selector] switch, move to the approximate position of the test eye, which is the target displayed on the screen. Measurement is performed ten times accordingto automatic alignment.Repeat the procedure of above and by using the three test eyes. The correction valuesare displayed and they are automatically written in EEPROM. Then, press any switch toreturn to the MENU display.
