2016 Officers Message from the President
Happy September to all my friends, chamber members, and colleagues, I hope everyone is doing well. It looks like the school year is in full swing with all of the children back in class. Before long the holidays will be upon us. Are you ready? Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Oh My; but what joy we get
watching the children as they light up with excitement. As we go to work each day please make sure you watch out for the children as they enter and exit the school busses. Obeying all traffic signals, and flashing lights. It’s important to keep our future leaders safe. As I was working in my yard the other day I was amazed at the gifts God has given us, the beauty of the sun as it shines with brilliant light, the colors of the leaves as they change with the season and the soft pastel colors left from the spring flowers. Oh, the sights of natures wonder are all around us. Take a minute each morning to step outside, look up at the heavens and thank God for another masterpiece sent for us to enjoy. Remember tomorrow is not promised, so take each day as though it is your last, be kind to others, live with values, love often and be a blessing to someone. I love inspirational quotes and enjoy sharing them, here is one I feel will touch each of you. “I believe if you keep your faith, you keep your trust, you keep the right attitude. If you’re grateful, you’ll see God open up new doors”, Joel Osteen How many of you are seeking new business opportunities, more referrals, better job more money, remember this quote; it is right on point. If you are not a member of the South West Mobile County Chamber of Commerce I strongly recommend you come join us at one of our monthly business luncheons and see what we are about. The possibilities are endless!! “Keeping in step with progress” Blessings

ZIKA VIRUS AWARENESS
The virus is transmitted through being bitten by an infected mosquito and it's expected to hit Mobile and our region in general
this summer.
The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain or pink eye. Other common symptoms include muscle pain and
headache. The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting several days to a week. Zika virus typically remains in the blood of an infected person for a few days, but can be found longer in some people. Severe cases requiring hospitalization is uncommon and
deaths are rare. Pregnant women are those most in danger because this virus has been linked to severe birth defects.
While MCHD is doing everything they can to fight against it through extensive monitoring, spraying and other programs, the
most effective way to stop the spread is for us all to get involved.
Removing mosquito breeding environments from around the home is the first line of defense against mosquitoes, and one of the most important. Mosquitoes can successfully breed in as little as a bottle cap of water. Taking a few minutes to walk around
your home and eliminate any standing water in dog bowls, flower pot dishes, tires, outside toys, etc., can make a huge
difference in protecting yourself and your family.
Other preventative measures include:
Use a good mosquito repellent on arms, legs, and other exposed areas (some of the most reliable repellents contain the chemical DEET; repellents with high concentrations of DEET - over 10%, should not be used on children). Follow instructions
carefully when using any insect repellent.
Long sleeves and long pants used with a mosquito repellent helps to limit bites.
Wear light-colored clothing (dark-colored clothing may help attract unwanted insects).
Wear a hat or a cap (preferably light-colored).
Be aware that aromatic (scented) cosmetics may also attract insects.
