All vehicles are required to have a Wiscon-sin State Park Admission Sticker. In addi-tion to the vehicle fee, each skier, biker, and horseback rider age 16 and older is required to have a Wisconsin State Trail Pass. Daily or annual passes are available. Self-regis-tration is required when the office is closed.
Park Hours: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Only reg-istered campers are permitted in the State Forest after 11 p.m.
Leashed pets are permitted in some ar-eas of the forest, and prohibited in other ar-eas. Permitted areas include: Ottawa Lake Campground, Horseriders Campground, Loops 2 and 3 in Pinewoods Campground, and the East Loop of Whitewater Lake Campground; on the Ice Age Trail, Scup-pernong* Hiking Trails, Emma Carlin Bike Trails, John Muir Bike Trails, Nordic* Hiking Trails and the horse trails. Pets are not per-mitted on nature trails, in buildings, picnic areas, swim beaches, or groomed ski trails. Pick up pet waste and dispose of it properly.
*Hiking, pets, and snowshoeing are prohibited on the ski trails when snow or ice covered.
Hunting is permitted within the boundaries of the forest. During hunting seasons, all forest users are encouraged to wear blaze orange. Please enquire about current hunting seasons.
Severe Weather: Visitors should stay apprised of current weather events. In the case of se-vere winds, do not seek shelter in vehicles, tents, or trailers, as they provide little protec-tion from wind-blown objects or falling trees. Seek shelter in concrete restroom facilities, or in a low ditch or gully with your head covered.

$Swimming BeachesThere is a swimming beach at both the Ottawa Lake and the Whitewater Lake Recreation Areas.
Self-Guided Nature TrailsThere are seven self-guided nature trails, including two accessible trails, and a self-guided canoe trail in the Southern Unit. These are short, loop trails, where pets are not allowed. Guide books are available for each trail that provide information about sites along the trail.
Hiking TrailsThere are over 155 miles of hiking trails in the forest, including loop trails and linear trails. Trails range in difficulty and users should plan their route accordingly. Terrain varies widely, from steep hills and ridges to forested areas and scenic prairies.
Horse TrailsThe forest has 55 miles of equestrian trails. The Moraine Ridge Trail runs lengthwise through the forest with three trailheads for access. The three trailheads also have ad-ditional shorter loop trails. There is a trail-side picnic area along the Moraine Ridge Trail, south of Wilton Road.
Snowmobile TrailsWhen the horse trails are snow covered, most of them are open for use as snowmobile trails. Winter trail grooming is performed by local snowmobile clubs who also determine if the trails are open or closed.
Snowshoe TrailsWhen trails are snow covered, snowshoeing is permitted on the Ice Age Trail, Scuppernong, Emma Carlin, John Muir, and all Nature Trails. Snowshoeing is not permitted on groomed ski trails.
Cross-Country Ski TrailsThe Nordic and McMiller trail systems provide excellent groomed ski trails for both classic and skate skiing.
Group Picnic SheltersOttawa Lake Recreation Area, Whitewater Lake Recre-ation Area, Paradise Springs, Nordic Trailhead, and DJ Mackie have reservable areas for group picnics. Call the Forest Headquarters to make a reservation.
Off-road bicyclingThere are opportunities for single-track mountain biking on the Muir, Carlin, and Connector trails. Miles of scenic back country roads provide for excellent road biking.
Kettle Moraine State Forest is a region in southeast Wisconsin demarcated by its glacial geology. The major landforms and terrain features of this area are a result of the movement of the Wisconsin Glacier during the last Ice Age.
The Kettle Moraine State Forest is comprised of six separate units.
The largest areas of the Kettle Moraine are the Northern Unit and the
Southern Unit. In between are the Pike Lake
Unit, Loew Lake Unit, Lapham Peak Unit, and the
Mukwonago River Unit. They are con-
nected by the Ice Age Trail and by the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive.

When planning a trip to the Southern Unit, do not use computerized mapping software to determine your driving route. Such software rarely yields desirable results. The Southern Unit is 30 miles from one end to the other, and mapping software will often direct you as much as thirty minutes from your intended destination. Please call the forest headquarters for assistance in planning your route.
