Southern Illinois University2019 IT Day Technology ConferenceCareer Event for Technology Students
This year we are including a unique career event for students. During IT Day, a selected group of technology students will be introduced to employers who are ready to hire or who are looking for interns. You’ll get to network, have lunch, interview, and learn from these employers—and really show them who you are. And, the students who show themselves as excellent examples of 2019 job candidates will have the opportunity to win prizes.

IT Day returns to SIU Carbondale on March 14, 2019, as the largesttechnology conference in Southern Illinois and the entire tri-state area.
Get Help — Get Ready!
To par�cipate you will need to preparein advance, but, you will have plenty ofhelp. Here’s what you need to do:
Register for the IT Day Conference Career Event.
Dress professionally.
Prepare, prac�ce, and produce your two-minute elevator pitch video.
Bring mul�ple copies of your polished resume
Students from Illinois universi�es and community colleges are invited to a�end, however, slots for the event are limited, so register now. If you have any ques�ons, please contact Rodney Emery at [email protected] or 618-453-6212.
Create a Resume
The SIU Career Development Center provides resume assistance and cri�ques. They can also help you create an elevator pitch and prac�ce interviewing. Contact Career Services at 618-453-2391 or [email protected]. Students from other schools and universi�es should contact their Career Services offices for assistance.
Prepare, Practice, and Produce Your Elevator Pitch
To create your two-minute video introduc�on/elevator pitch take �me to prepare and prac�ce. During your video session, be ready to state your full name, your major, your career interests, and why you will make a great employee—with great enthusiasm! Convince poten�al employers they cannot go wrong by choosing you.
Then, contact the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at (618) 453-2258 or [email protected] to set an appointment. They have facili�es to video your elevator pitch. Students from other schools and universi�es can also create their video at the CTE (by appointment) or they can create their own video and send it to us before 5:00 p.m. on February 28. (These videos will be available to employers before, during, and a�er the event).

Dress for success the day of the event! And, be sure to come ready to show employers who you are and why you are the right candidate for the job. SIU Career Development Center offers a Professional Clothing Closet of business a�re, which is free to SIU students (the clothes you select are yours to keep). Call to schedule an appointment or walk-in daily from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
