WELCOMESouthern Fried 2015 is one of the most exciting line-ups we’ve presented to date with three completely unique Perth Concert Hall performances at its heart. Our opening night in Perth Concert Hall sees a one-off double bill of two of the most talked-about young acts on the Americana scene; the amazing virtuosity of Punch Brothers and the wonderfully expressive voice of Rhiannon Giddens.

On Saturday night we explore the treasure trove of songs written by Dolly Parton; one of the icons of American roots music with an all-female line-up of superb musicians and singers backed by bluegrass quintet Della Mae - recently named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Top Ten acts of this year’s SXSW festival in Austin.

We close the festival on Sunday with Rock My Soul, a celebration of the great depth and breadth of Southern gospel, performed for the first time outside the USA, where it has been the subject of a highly successful TV special on PBS. Starring the McCrary Sisters and the legendary acapella quartet their father sang with for many years, The Fairfield Four, Rock My Soul will provide a wonderful uplifting finale to a fun-filled weekend.

Our mantra that song is the uniting factor across the many styles of music that Southern Fried embraces, is reflected throughout the festival line-up. Shows at The Salutation Hotel include Scottish Americana from Southern Fried perennial Dean Owens with his band on Saturday, and a superb afternoon of blues with solo sets from Alvin Youngblood Hart and Chris Smither on Sunday. Late night shows at the same venue feature Yola Carter, Meaghan Blanchard, Della Mae and Amythyst Kiah performing their own material as well as Doug Seegers and Champion Doug Veitch.

FRI 31 JULINSIDE LLEWYN DAVIES (2013): 2PMThis Oscar-nominated Coen Brothers film follows a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Guitar in tow, huddled against the New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against insurmountable obstacles - some of them of his own making.

ANOTHER TIME ANOTHER PLACE: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIES (2013): 4.15PM Concert film featuring live performances of the film's music, as well as songs from the early 1960s. Artists include the Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Dave Rawlings Machine, Marcus Mumford, Patti Smith, Gillian Welch and Jack White. Southern Fried openers Rhiannon Giddens and Punch Brothers also feature.

SAT 1 AUG RANGO (2011): 11AMAn Oscar-winning film about a chameleon (voiced by Johnny Depp) who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff. Los Lobos feature in the excellent latino-western score.

BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (1982): 1PMBurt Reynolds stars in this Oscar-nominated comedy musical as the town Sheriff (and regular patron) who fights to keep madam Dolly Parton’s historical whorehouse open when a TV preacher targets it as the Devil’s playhouse.

RHINESTONE (1984): 3.30PMCountry star Dolly Parton bets her career that she can turn Sly Stallone’s obnoxious New York cabbie into an overnight Nashville sensation. Featuring Dolly tracks including the Top Ten hits God Won’t Get You and Tennessee Homesick Blues.

SUN 2 AUGTHE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (2009): 11AMNominated for three Oscars, Disney’s first animated feature with an African-American lead character is set in 1920s New Orleans and retells the classic story of The Frog Prince. The soundtrack is made up of great Randy Newman songs and features Dr John, Terrence Blanchard and the voice of Tiana, Anika Noni Rose.

DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN (2000): 12PMProduced by T-Bone Burnet, this documentary explores the music used in O Brother Where Art Thou. Artists include Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Ralph Stanley, Jerry Douglas as well as The Fairfield Four who play Perth Concert Hall later that night.

O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU (2000): 2.15PMThis Coen Brothers classic was nominated for 2 Oscars and stars George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as three escaped convicts retracing Homer’s Odyssey in 1930’s Mississippi. The soundtrack sold over 5 million copies, and introduced many to what we now know as Americana.

If you’re parking here and going to Late and Southern Fried remember to move your car beforehand as this car park shuts at midnight!

There are multiple other car parks around the city centre with most having no charge on a Sunday.
