Los Angeles Union Station
• Metro purchased LAUS in 2011.
• Located on the second busiest passenger rail corridor on the US.
• Developing a Master Plan for the station that will define growth.
• LAUS is a destination point for millions of riders each year.
The Importance of Union Station in the Region
• LAUS is the regional transportation hub.
• An origin and destination for 86% of Metrolink riders.
• About 12.5M Metrolink boardings at LAUS each day.
• 3M Amtrak boardings a year.• Measure R projects are
increasing connectivity.• The CHSRA system will be at
LAUS in 2029.
LAUS Is A Regional Transportation Hub
Southern California Regional Interconnector Project
• Will serve Metrolink and Amtrak trains.
• Extends at least four LAUS platform tracks to exit at the south end of the yard.
• Increases station capacity by 40% -50%.
• Creates operational flexibility.
• Environmentally Cleared in 2006

Funding
• This project is No. 1 on the MOU list.• Needed for Blended Service and future passenger
rail growth.• Project was environmentally cleared in 2006.• Funding will be through:
– Measure R,– ARRA,– Prop 1A,– Other sources TBD.
What We Are Doing?
• We will be releasing an RFP in May.• RFP will be for two phases.• Phase 1 - Re-certify the environmental
document.• Phase 2 - Either PS&E or D/B package.
Project Delivery
• We will be determining the project delivery method during Phase 1.
• Could be Design/Build or Design/Bid/Build.• This will be decided with an independent
analysis.– Need to analyze risk vs benefits.– Phase 2 - Either PS&E or D/B package.
