Formerly known as the Hawg Holler Rally, new owners Herbert and Amber Clark

know how to throw a party, biker style, so they purchased this west Tennessee rally and have kicked it into high gear. As if giving away a Big Dog Motorcycle to one of the folks attending the event wasn’t enough, they totally revitalized the entire 164 acre property, vendor row, shower area and stage for the tons of entertainment that went on at the rally, like Phoenix Rising. Amy Brown, lead singer for PR and her compadres blew it out for all the rally goers. Harley and Crystal Birdwell put on a terrific ventriloquist act everyone enjoyed.

The huge bike show featured all kinds of creations, custom paint jobs and a few oddities. The bike games had a new area and several new twists for the competitors to take that all important 1st place medal. Vendors showed up in force and were greeted by hundreds of folks ready to buy their wares and food. The Ms. Boogie

Hollar contest was packed with competition and the winner will hold her crown until the spring Boogie Hollar 2015.

And now comes the fall Boogie Hollar August 7-10th with another stellar entertainment line-up plus….Amberland. We’ll see you there for all the fun.

North Alabama riders arrived on two or three wheels to support the fight against cancer in Cullman County.

Over 200 people (nearly double from the year before) participated in the event raising hundreds of dollars for those in need.

Cullman County Fairgrounds hosted the registration site. There everyone enjoyed refreshments and fellowship before departing on a tremendous scenic ride. A short ceremony was held with the mayor speaking and a prayer for the riders, but what griped my heart and made tears flow down my face was a young girl named Lindsay Jones.

Lindsay doesn’t look it but she’s only 18 and she has a powerful, heartfelt story. At four years old she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer (Rhabdomyosarcoma) which only affected males. Lindsay would be the first girl ever to have this type cancer which eventually left her permanently blind and very tiny for her age. She told her story of what happened to her and how folks came to her and her family’s aide. Now, she wanted to give back too. “I like to help people because I know that one day we will find a cure for

cancer. And I want to give back a portion of what was given to me when I was sick and also because I know (and you know) that we all can make a difference!” She went on to say, “I would just like to say, that each and every one of you here are heroes because you all showed up today and you are all going to ride for different reasons that you have in your hearts. But I encourage you to keep fighting for what you believe and keep fighting for a good cause.” There was not a dry eye in the pavilion after her speech.

The riders rode out with a new warm feeling in their hearts and minds. With the Blue Knights Alabama VIII leading ride, everyone enjoyed the scenic route then returned safe for raffles, auctions and a great BBQ meal. “In Cullman County, we have a lot of people who are not prepared for this (disease),” said Mary Dyer, founder of the foundation. “They have to leave their job and no one should have to worry about (paying) their light bill when going through treatment, they just need to get well.”

One hundred percent of all proceeds from this fundraiser as well as other donations go directly to benefit deserving cancer patients in the Cullman County area, no matter what type cancer they may have to cover everything

from groceries to utility bills while they continue their battle. A board of directors who accept no money for their time or efforts oversees the foundation. All money is donated and raised by the board of directors, volunteers and citizens of Cullman County.

Car or Motorcycle? That’s the question on several people’s

minds as Polaris introduces a side-by-side three wheeler on a reverse trike platform. Touted as the Slingshot, this “motorcycle” will have a steering wheel, seat belts and a 2.4 liter EcoTec engine from General Motors. If the DOT agrees with Polaris, this one will be labeled a trike.

The actual launch of the Slingshot is July 27th, a couple days after the printing of this issue, but we’ll have a follow up on this Polaris trike introduction as they are making sure we get the scoop and test ride in their newest edition to their lineup. Keeping this production model a total secret and only revealing it in teaser videos without showing the whole product only makes you wonder what this thing is, what it looks like and what will it do.

With an estimated stock 200HP engine that is estimated to reach upwards of 130mph, someone could really have a nice, fast side-by-side in their midst and is going to be USA road legal. From all indications from the patents applied for and the renditions that went with them, the Slingshot will have no doors, manual stick shift, individual seat roll bars where the driver sits down in a seat that hovers inches above the asphalt (looks similar to the KTM X-Bow GT car or the Ariel Atom car).

It appears to have a single swingarm out back that is belt driven and a double wishbone suspension in the front. The patent states it will have electronic power steering, anti-lock

brakes, traction control, and vehicle stability control.

The Polaris Slingshot is estimated to sell for around $30,000 (the Can-Am Spyder starts at around $15,000).

As more details emerge, we’ll keep you up to date on this new Polaris reverse trike dubbed, the Slingshot.

Herbert & Amber Clark’s Junebug Boogie turned 13 this year and the show continues to grow each

year. Bringing in top entertainment acts, lots of vendors and a lot of stuff for folks to do keeps the crowds coming back year after year. Mini-swimming pools littered the acreage where everyone could cool off and chill. A slip-n-slide, a water mister and a swimming pool was put right next to our vendor tent as soon as we arrived. Two thumbs up Herbert!

With the Mr. & Ms. Junebug contest pulling in record contestants, the field games in full swing at the Junebug Stadium and bands entertaining the masses, it was no wonder some folks claimed this as the best rally ever. A little bit a liquid sunshine didn’t dampin’ anyone’s spirit as the party continued day and night.

People arrived on motorcycles daily. Even some new friends we rescued in Florida when their trike broke down, Jeff & Brenda, saw our magazine in North Carolina, read about Junebug, packed up the fifth wheel and rolled into Cookeville for the Junebug. The Southern Biker Road Crew (Woody & Sabrina, Chris Cooper and myself along with photographer extroidinare Tony Wicks and Taco did

double duty as we covered all the events and also handed out hundreds of Steelhorse Law swag to everyone. Biker Bob from USA Biker Parties got great close-up shots for us too.

The Boogie Too is coming September 25th-28th with more great entertainment. Pack your trailers, tents and trucks and come on! It’s also Herbert and Amber’s third anniversary. Bring them a gag gift and we’ll make sure they open the gifts on stage for everyone to see! Come see who’s gonna out do everybody!

We all have had cancer come at us at one point in our life, whether it’s you, family, children, friends…or best

friends. Such is the case with Sally Chapman, the owner of Oskies Sports Bar & Grill in Farragut, Tennessee. Just recently diagnosed with breast cancer, she fights daily to muster up enough strength to do daily tasks at work and at home. Yes, she continues today with chemotherapy. It takes a toll on her physically, emotionally and her drive has been challenged with being tired while her body continues fighting.

I’ve never had cancer hit this close to me since my mother had it back in my twenties. Sally has done so much for so many for so long that it was only right that someone start the payback by paying it forward. My wife Kristin and I have always ordered red, black or white Southern Biker Magazine shirts, never had pink. It was time to do it and sell them where every dime goes straight to Sally with her rising medical costs and expenses associated with it. Not knowing how the sales would go, we order a small amount. That order quickly found its way into the hands of very caring and giving individuals. We have since ordered another set which also quickly sold out and now we are waiting on the third order to arrive.

Throughout her fight, we’ve helped with benefits for Sally; a breast cancer night, a Pink Bike Night, Shave Your Head Night,

etc., and others have joined her fight like the band Kitty Wampus who recently had a concert night at Oskies celebrating the bands beginnings, at Oskies several years ago. We recently presented Sally with the money we have raised so far.

Still today, you can still see Sally at Oskies working as much as she can, trying to make sure the doors stay open and her employees continue to have a place to work. But this is the time friends need to come and help, without being asked. Something as small as showing up for their bike night on Fridays and enjoying their fried fish dinner special, sending her a message on a napkin, would make all the difference in the world to Sally.

So many of us complain on a daily basis about things; be thankful for your health and the wonderful things in your life. If you come across a friend in need, help without thinking about

ever getting anything in return. I promise you will be the one receiving the blessing. We continue to Support Sally with as much as we can, no matter what she needs. Maybe a vacation to Key West is in order.

The Lucas Oil Motocross Championship has reached the

halfway point of the series and the KTM duo of Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey are battling for supremacy. 19 year old Roczen has shown speed and consistency of a veteran while Dungey has been on his rear fender the whole way.

High Point Raceway was dominated by the James Stewart of old. Stewart came out swinging with a 1-1 finish and was poised to put his name in the title chase. Muscle Milk Honda’s Trey Canard showed great speed and closed in on Stewart in the late stages of the race but to no avail. Star Racing Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin finally showed he was human and his streak came to an end.

Monster Energy

AMA Motocross Championship Heating UpBy Jacob Saylor

Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett gained momentum in the championship chase with a 1-1 performance.

The 2nd annual Tennessee National made its return to Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, TN. The southeast motocross fans packed the gorgeous facility and were not disappointed. Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb emerged victorious with a hard fought battle for two thirty minute motos against Blake Baggett. This marked his first career win and put Star Racing Yamaha in command of the championship with Martin and Webb running 1-2 respectively. Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac made his return to racing and showed he will be a force to recon with finishing on the podium in the 450 class.

KTM’s Ryan Dungey with his win at Budds Creek catapulted him into 3rd position in all time AMA wins behind

Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart. And in the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship he is 2nd all time in the record books; a milestone achievement for the former champion. Roczen taking the victory at Muddy Creek, and Red Bud, however, stretched his lead on Dungey at the halfway point in the series. Eli Tomac dominated the 450 Class moto at Spring Creek with a 1-1 first place to cap off his first career victory in the premier division. Both Tomac and Trey Canard have the ability to get in between the KTM duo and make it interesting from here on out.

Kathy TollesonCEO ROAR Motorcycles, Inc.

I love to Ride

Through the corporate changes we have made related to

ROAR, my actual riding time has increased. By creating ROAR Certified Departments in other dealierships, I do not have to provide daily management to a dealership. It has once again reinforced my joy in riding. I just love it. I love to ride alone. I love to ride with others. I just love to ride. (Kind of sounds like a Dr. Seuss book). I guess that's why I have had such a passion to help other women ride.

I have a pillow that I talk about in my book, Hear My ROAR; it says "I have never seen a motorcycle parked outside a psychiatrist's office." I would add, "Unless the psychiatrist is riding it." Riding is just great therapy. I

love the sense of freedom and ability to de-stress your mind. I also believe that it's a fountain of youth and helps keep you younger and active. I may be sixty-one but I still feel twenty when I ride.

Through our dealership, I was able to experience firsthand how motorcycling helped women overcome the grief of divorce, widowhood, economic loss, cancer recovery, accidents and other life threatening events. Their riding empowered, brought new relationships and experiences and kept them active. It was so much fun to see women nervously put their toe in motorcycle waters and then eventually become confident, knowledgeable women who loved to ride.

I always like to include the disclaimer that some women may never want to ride. I am always fine with that if they are making that decision knowledgeably and not based solely on fear. I don't like to see them robbed because they were never given a true opportunity. I also hate to see women robbed because of their own passivity and fears. Life needs to be lived! To me, motorcycling is one of my favorite forms of living.

If you're sitting on the fence and wondering if you should pursue that secret desire of riding your own bike, I would love to help push you over the edge today. You can do it and you may discover that you love it, too!

Rib CityAnother Tennessee State H.O.G.

Rally in Cookeville and it was a blast! Guess where I found some really good ribs? At Rib City! It's located at 780 West Jackson Street. They serve up baby backs with a motto "If you have to pick up a knife to eat them, we will pick up your meal."

A full rack of ribs is $14.99 with two sides, baked beans and ear of corn for me. Bar-b-q pork or beef sandwiches on garlic bread go for $6.89 with fries.

Jeffery likes the gas station, two 1/4 lb beef dogs smothered in baked beans at $6.29. That's why he rides in the back of the pack.

Rib City is worth a road trip. They're open daily and you can call ahead at 931-372-7100.UNTIL WE EAT AGAIN, BIKER BARRY

Steve BalesBike Info: 2014 Harley-Davidson Street GlideOccupation: Owner/Mechanic at Steve's Cycle Shop,

Lenoir City, TNInterest: Riding, hunting and watching all types of racing

No one wakes up on a Saturday morning thinking they are going to get into a

motorcycle accident, yet, it happens every day. Being a responsible biker sometimes starts before you even throw on your helmet and hit the road. Protecting yourself and your family goes beyond your gear. It all starts with making sure you are protected in case someone hits you and isn’t responsible enough to carry adequate insurance. Every time you sign up for an insurance policy on your bike or your car, your agent speaks to you about “uninsured motorist coverage”. But what your agent probably didn’t tell you, is that this coverage can also cover you in the event someone is underinsured. Now every state in the South is different with respect to their uninsured motorist laws, but all of them allow you to use at the minimum, the vehicle you driving in the event that the person who hit you isn’t adequately insured. So, how does this work? This is a question we answer a dozen times a week… Let’s use this example. You are riding down the road and someone pulls out directly in front of you. You strike their minivan and end up with a broken leg. Once you arrive at the hospital, you are informed you need surgery. A day later you are looking at being out of work for six weeks and staring at a $50,000.00 hospital bill. The at-fault party’s insurance company is not going to cut a check for your mortgage and grocery bills. In fact, you later find out they only carry a state minimum policy of $25,000.00. So in this scenario, when taking into account your lost wages, you are more than $30,000.00 upside down. This is where protecting yourself before you get on your bike becomes so important. In this scenario you will be able to use your own uninsured motorist coverage due to the person who caused the accident being underinsured. Depending on the state that you live in, you will be able to use your bike, and possibly even your car uninsured motorist insurance policies to make sure you are taken care of. And because the accident was not your fault, your company won’t raise your rates, or drop you for being forced to use these policies. When looking, you will see this coverage may be as little as $30.00 a month, but when you need it, it will be a life saver. How much coverage do you have in case someone takes you out? If you don’t know the answer, it is time to check. Pull your declaration pages for your bike and cars. Give us a call, we would be happy to review them for you and discuss how your policies are set up. At Steelhorse Law, we never want to see our friends get hurt. But knowing it can happen, we want to make sure you are protected before you get on your bike.
