Jen Allen is one of them. “I hadalways been overweight growing up,and after a year of marriage I weighed360 pounds. When my weight af-fected my pregnancy, resulting in anemergency induction of labor, I knewI needed to change my life.” Hercousin introduced her to Medi-Weightloss®. “The program was easyto follow and within five months ofstarting, I was down 100 pounds,”Jen reports. “I cannot thank the staffat Medi-Weightloss® enough for giv-ing me the encouragement I neededwhen I needed it, the information andtools I required to be successful, andthe lasting friendships I formed duringthe weekly visits. ily that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’tfound them!” Along with the weightloss, Jen’s health and confidence haveimproved. She no longer has highblood pressure and she’s taken up jog-ging, having completed several 5Kraces!

The Medical DifferenceThere are three phases designed

to help patients reach their goalweight and then maintain the weightloss for a lifetime. After a free, no-obligation assessment, the Medi-Weightloss® journey starts with anInitial Consultation. This 90-minuteappointment includes a one-on-oneevaluation with a physician or nursepractitioner. Each individual’s detailedmedical history is reviewed and anyhealth conditions, prescriptions, orother concerns are discussed so themedical provider can identify factorsthat could affect weight loss and over-all health. A blood panel and EKG areadministered. The medical staff alsomeasure weight and body fat percent-age, determine BMI, and take othersimple measurements.

Then an individualized weightloss program is created. The plan in-cludes a nutrition and exercise compo-nent, supplements, vitamin-basedinjections, and, if prescribed, an FDA-approved prescription. Patients arethen seen on a weekly basis to reviewprogress; any necessary adjustments tothe plan are made. Patients also re-ceive nutrition and exercise education, motivation, and support from themedical staff, as well as vitamin-basedinjections at the weekly visits. Patientsare given access to a members-onlywebsite that allows them to track their

statistics, accessrecipes, createfitness plans,and review ed-ucational re-sources.

Once theirweight lossgoals areachieved, pa-tients enter theWellness Phaseof the programwhere they aretaught how tokeep theweight off forgood. Medi-Weightloss®medical professionals are determinedto help you reach your goals.

Some Steps to Take: • Start a food journal. Recording

foods regularly keeps you honest. Notonly can journaling help you highlightareas needing a change, it also showswhere you are successful. Makingsmall changes weekly can really accel-erate weight loss. In addition, foodjournaling can increase awareness ofportion size, which is a very importantcomponent of healthy eating andweight loss.

• Know what’s on your plate.Journaling, reducing calories, and de-creasing portion size are all important, but the types of food matter too. Inaddition to proper servings of vegeta-bles and fruit, eating a little more pro-tein and less refined carbs can help youfeel more satisfied. This may reduceyour total caloric intake throughoutthe day.

• Don’t skip meals. Part of stay-ing in shape and living a healthylifestyle is making sure you get the nu-trients you need on a regular basis.Skipping meals, especially breakfast, may cause you to overindulge in foodlater in the day.

• Stay hydrated. Don’t mistakethirst for hunger. Drink plenty ofwater throughout the day – the oldstandby is eight 8-ounce glasses and

that remains a good recommendation.Listen to your body and drink enoughwater so you never feel thirsty. Drinkmore water if it is hot outside or if youare exercising.

• Set reasonable goals. Whenstarting a weight loss plan, it can bediscouraging to look at the overallamount of weight you want to lose. Ifyou set the bar too high or only focus

on your overallgoal, you may startto lack the motiva-tion you need tokeep going. In-stead, try focusingon smaller, short-term goals. Onceyou start accom-plishing these, your overall goalwill be in closereach.

• Incorporateexercise. Researchshows that incor-porating dailyphysical activity isvital for yourhealth and weightmaintenance. TheNational WeightControl Registry

tracked the success of more than5,000 individuals who have lost signif-icant amounts of weight and kept if offfor long periods of time. Of the partic-ipants followed, they found that 89percent reported using both diet andphysical activity for weight loss, com-pared to just 10 percent that reportedusing diet alone.

Maintaining weight loss can bechallenging, but it is possible if you aredetermined to make permanentlifestyle changes. The very same toolsthat lead to successful weight loss pro-vide the framework for keeping theweight off. It is never a good idea toreturn to your old habits. If youoverindulge or skip a few workouts, just get back on track! It’s all aboutliving a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
