Commodore’s Comments
We are rapidly approaching the holiday season. I can’t believe how fast the last 2 months have come and gone. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were sitting around our boats with a cocktail in our hand and enjoying our awesome life style. We do live in Wisconsin, which means frozen water will be coming out the sky sooner than later. Our boats are put away and it is time to celebrate the end of the year fes-tivities. If you haven’t heard there was an election for our nations president. Right, wrong, or indifferent the people have chosen. You know that voting is a right under our constitution and much blood has been spilled by men and women protecting that right. My only request is that we respect each other, it doesn’t matter whom one has voted for – it does matter that they have voted. Just think in 2 short years we start the process over again…ugh! I have one housekeeping message (probably more like a whine) this month. It came to my attention we had several items left in the cooler and refrigerator that have been there for, well let’s just say too long. We have many events throughout the year both member and non-member sponsored. It is important for us to ensure we get everything cleaned up in a timely fashion to include leftovers. Ideally as soon as the event is over the leftovers would be removed from the facility. We all need to take an active role in ensuring we remove leftovers. If you have plan for the leftovers put your name, date, and contact num-ber on the item(s). This will ensure that things don’t get thrown out that shouldn’t. Otherwise, they will be departing the facility through the use of the large container on the west side of the building. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I want to thank Kathy and Dave Lucht along with their ghoulish helpers for another fun filled Halloween Bash. The costumes were fun and scary! The band was fantastic; an overall good time was had by all. This was the 3rd annual and hopefully not the last bash! Finally, Mary Jo and I want to wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving. See you at the Club, Jon Haag SMYC Commodore (c) 414-617-3438 (e) [email protected]
Winter Doldrums Tom Ciurlik is looking for members who might be interested in starting an in-house pool league on Thursday nights at the club. If interested give Tom a call at 414-315-7649 or e mail to [email protected]. Thanks

In an ongoing effort to spread goodwill throughout the community from SMYC, we requested a donation
barrel be set out at the Club for South Milwaukee Human Concerns (SMHC) this Holiday season. I have
toured the facility at 1029 Milwaukee Ave and am impressed with the organization, cleanliness,
volunteers and directors. The barrel is here. Let’s get it filled!

Cranberry Brie
About 2 cups
Have the tasty appetizer on hand for unexpected guests. Serve over brie, cream cheese or any semi-soft cheese.
3 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup dried currants
1/3 cup water
1/8 teaspoon each ground allspice, cardamom,
cloves and ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground mustard
8 oz. brie or cream cheese.
Assorted crackers
Combine the cranberries, sugar, currants, water and spices in a non-aluminum saucepan. Cook and stir over
medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes or until most of the berries have popped. Cool, then refrigerate.
Place cheese on serving dish, top with 1/2 - 3/4 cup cranberry topping. Serve with crackers. Freeze remaining
topping in 1/2-cup containers for future parties, unexpected guests or to take on the boat.
Tips:
For the holidays, shape cream cheese into a candy cane and spoon the cranberry topping over in stripes.
Spread leftover topping and cheese onto a turkey sandwich or panini.
Spread may also be served warm.
