Dear Friends,

It’

anniversaries as the years mount up. This year we commemorate a hundred yearssince the outbreak of World War One. It was to be the war to end all wars but as weknow from our daily news it was not. Thousands of lives were lost as young menfought valiantly for their country. Today, war is very different and even more brutal.Innocent people are used as shields, raped and tortured and millions of people aremade homeless refugees. The so called advances of the human race towards‘ ’, democracy, and equality just do not reach the human heart.

I enjoy watching—people with great skill thrilling andentertaining millions. The Football World Cup tournament, amajor player this year, brings its usual passion with roller

from these things, society seems to take an express route to more of the same, onlymore and more brutal. This is what happens when we try to ignore God; our

God is not irrelevant, nor is he ignoring us—he suffered brutality, being a refugee andeverything we experience. God understands and loves us so much he gave us a way tofreedom and peace through Jesus Christ his son. Isn’love?

The F & E Harris Memorial Trust

New Community Transport SchemeThe Trust will be funding a community door-to-door transport scheme. It is designed to helppeople aged 55 and over who live in South Marston to get out and about and who do not have

Once described as “ ” the Bodleian book storage facility, situated at KeyPoint, is no ordinary warehouse. Constructed in less than 12 months and chosen from 80possible sites, this computerized and climate controlled building holds books, maps,manuscripts, microfilms, periodicals and newspapers primarily from the 18th century onwardswith some from the 1600s. Impressed? Furthermore, these are not the most precious orfrequently used resources belonging to the Bodleian Libraries ofthe University of Oxford.

The Bodleian Libraries are one of the oldest and most famous

growing at the rate of 1,000 books a day, around 150,000-170,000new items per year.

Completed in October 2010 this £26 million facility is capable of holding 8.4 million volumes

Overgrown Hedges

Following the recent warm and wet weather, a large number ofhedges in the village are now very overgrown. This not onlycauses problems for pedestrians (who end up having to leavethe pavement to avoid them) but also for vehicles trying to pullout onto village roads. Their view of pedestrians and oncoming

South Marston Parish Council would be very grateful ifresidents would check their hedges and cut them back if theyare causing a nuisance or covering road signs.

Tots ‘n’ Toddlers are a parent and toddler group that meetup every Wednesday morning during term time for a play

session, craft table and coffee and a chat.

Its not every day you get taken for a grave robber;or get an Australian history lesson from a travellingpriest. There again, bell ringing is one of those
