Due to the December fire
at the SC Garden Club
Council Building, the
site of our regular meet-
ings, we will be meeting
at a different location for
the 2019 year. President
Cary Chamblee has se-
cured a meeting room at
the Lizards Thicket, at
402 Beltline Blvd. in Co-
lumbia. This is near the
intersection of Devine
and Beltline. We will try
something new for
lunch. LT has offered a
buffet of chicken breast,
3 veggies, bread and
drink for about $8.00 per
person. After January we
will continue to explore
our options and try to
find a new temporary
home. Cary is looking at
public parks and more. If
you have suggestions,
please email your ideas
to him.

January 20th Program
Stan Hutto will present
our program this month
centering on preparation
for our February 8th Or-
chid Show. Items to be
covered will include how
to groom your show
plants and pack them to
get there in good condi-
tion for judging. Also we
will learn about award
sponsorship, opportuni-
ties to help set up and
remove the show dis-
play, and the availability
of ribbon judging oppor-
tunities (and its benefits)
on Friday morning. Our
annual show is a big way
to recruit new members
to our group and all
members are encouraged
to participate!

General Meeting Information
The South Carolina Orchid Society meets at 12:30 PM on the third Sunday of each month. There is a short business meeting, an orchid program, raffle or sale plants, and a Show and Tell Table where members bring blooming plants and those attending can ask culture questions. Visitors are wel-come and inquiries regarding the meeting may be directed to the Society’s Secretary at 803-920-9475, [email protected]
The SCOS Show at
Riverbanks is fast ap-
proaching and we
need members and
their friends to step up
and support the event
though many different
activities. Whether it is
financially sponsoring
the various monetary
awards given to the
best plants, setting up
the show props for vis-
iting societies, contrib-
uting blooming or-
chids or maybe nice
non-blooming house
plants to the SCOS dis-
play, putting nametags
on the plants, working
at the club information
desk during the show,
and/or ribbon judging,
the Show offers mem-
bers many ways to
learn more about or-
chids and introduce
these plants to the
public. There will be
sign-up sheets for all
of these activities at
the January meeting
and it a great way to
meet orchid friends
new and old, local and
across the Carolinas!
The November meeting was our annual holiday potluck and
auction. No minutes were recorded.

Cary and David J. ar-
range the plants for
the November auc-
tion. There was a very
nice selection of or-
chids donated by
members and also
purchased for the
event. Members got
some great bargains at
this holiday party!
