One-place-per-student provision

According to this provision, a student mayaccept only one study place leading to a highereducation degree during one academic year. The purpose of this is to ensure admissionto higher education institutions for as manystudents as possible. Higher education de-grees are Bachelor degrees and Master degreesawarded by universities, and Bachelor degreesand Master degrees awarded by polytechnics/UAS. The provision applies to all degreestudies in higher education regardless of howthe studies are provided. The provision doesnot apply to the National Defence College, the Police College of Finland and the ÅlandPolytechnic. Furthermore, the provision can-not be applied to studies completed at foreignhigher education institutions.

The academic year (from 1 August to 31July) is the set framework for implementa-tion. The provision does not prevent accept-ance of a place in another degree programmeduring another academic year. Even if thestudent postpones the commencement ofstudies for one year, or interrupts his/herstudies, that student cannot accept anotherstudy place for a degree programme startingin the same academic year.

Confirming the study place
