    BANGLADESH

BANGLADESH BETAR Bangladesh Betar is the state-owned radio broadcasting organisation of Bangladesh. It was also known as Radio Bangladesh between 1975 and 1996.

BANGLADESH BETAR - HOME SERVICE The Bangladesh Betar Home Service has nationwide coverage on MW, SW and FM. The current 100 kW shortwave transmitter was inaugurated in 2006. Transmitter Site: Shavar - 100 kW. Time/UTC Language kHz 0600-1710 (1200-2310 BST) Bengali/English 4750 Note: WRTH says news in English at 1100 & 1530 UTC, with SAARC news in English at 1250 UTC Mondays

BANGLADESH BETAR - EXTERNAL SERVICE Bangladesh Betar's External Service had in recent years operated on two shortwave frequencies in the 41 and 31 metre-bands (7250 and 9550 kHz). This was reduced to just one frequency (7250 kHz) and from early 2010 was not heard at all, probably due to the remaining transmitter being in a state of disrepair. However, during 2012 a new Thomson 250 kW shortwave transmitter and rotatable antenna system was installed at Khabipur and tests were first heard in August 2012 on a number of frequencies including 7105, 15105, 15505 and 15520 kHz. The monitored schedule since mid-August is below. Transmitter Site: Kharbirpir - 250 kW. BHUTAN

BHUTAN BROADCASTING SERVICE Radio Broadcasting was started by a group of young volunteers, known as the National Youth Association of Bhutan (NYAB) in November 1973. The station was operational only on Sundays with 30 minutes of news and music. The NYAB club office was transformed to radio studio at weekends. The 400-watt transmitter was rented from the local telegraph office. The station was called Radio NYAB. In 1979, the Royal Government recognizing the importance of the radio for development communication, incorporated the station under the Ministry of Communications. In 1986 with the commissioning of a 10 kW shortwave transmitter and a small broadcast studio, Radio NYAB was renamed as Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS). In March 1991, BBS acquired its permanent seat in Chubachu, Thimphu, and a 50 kW shortwave transmitter. In August 2007, a 100 kW shortwave transmitter with DRM capability was commissioned. BBS radio broadcasts for 15 hours daily from 6 am to 9 pm local time in four languages (Dzongkha, Sharchop, Lhotsamkha and English) (information as per www.bbs.com.bt)

Both of the shortwave transmitters at Thimphu are currently off-air due to technical problems. The older 50 kW unit had been operating on 6035 kHz but has not been heard since February 2013. The newer 100 kW unit has not been reported on 5030 kHz since December 2011.

TARGET BROADCASTS FROM INDIA TO PAKISTAN-ADMINISTERED AZAD KASHMIR

VOICE OF KASHMIR (SEDAYEE KASHMIR) The Voice of Kashmir is a radio station operated by the Indian government with anti-Pakistani prog-ramming aimed at Kashmir. It first went on air in late 2002 via the shortwave transmitters of All India Radio in Delhi. Broadcasts are reported to be irregular.

    NEPAL

RADIO NEPAL Radio Nepal was established on 1 April 1951. Initially, the transmission covered duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes through a 250 Watt shortwave transmitter. Over the years, Radio Nepal has strengthened its institutional capacity considerably and diversified itself in terms of programme format, technical efficiency and coverage. Radio Nepal currently airs programmes on mediumwave and FM. Programming is mainly in Nepali but the daily schedule includes segments in other languages.

The Radio Nepal shortwave transmitter at Khumaltar has not been reported on its usual frequency of 5005 kHz since mid-2010 and is believed to be silent due to a technical fault.
