South African Adventure July 9 - 19, 2013 July 9 - depart US July 11 - TRANSFER You are met on arrival in Cape Town and trans- ferred to your hotel for the evening on your own to explore the V&A Water- front. Situated between Rob- ben Island and Table Mountain in the heart of Cape Town's working harbor, the V&A Water- front has be- come one of South Africa's most visited destinations. Since 1988, the harbor is continually undergoing changes, with the redevelopment of land and the restoration of buildings surrounding the original Victoria & Alfred Basins, creating a mix of shop- ping and entertainment venues, intermingled with imaginative office locations, world-class hotels and luxury apartments in the residential marina. Aside from the myriad of shops, restaurants and bars, there is a more cultural side to the Water- front, focused around the historic Clock Tower, which was the original Port Captain's Office in 1882 and part of a collection of well-preserved turn of the century buildings. It is near here that the ferries depart for Robben Island (from the Nelson Mandela Gateway), while the Two Oceans Aquarium is a short walk from here. With ferries and boats continuously on the go, Cape Fur Seals playing in the harbor water, and a mix of both and international visitors, the Waterfront is a wonderful place to soak up some typical Cape Town vibe. THE BREAKWATER LODGE Portswood Road, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa Business Suite double rooms for 2 nights Inclusive of breakfast, service charge and taxes. Just a minute away from restaurants, theatres and shops, the Breakwater Lodge is perfectly positioned in the heart of the famous V&A Wa- terfront. Once a 19th Century prison, the hotel today provides comfortable and affordable ac- commodation in Cape Town, a spectacular set- ting that looks out over the harbor and Table Mountain. The 191 rooms are all elegant and stylishly decorated with comfortable furnishings as well as being equipped with 22 inch LCD Television sets with an 11 channel DSTV pack- age, radio and a direct-dial telephone. If you need a little refreshment, a welcome tray with biscuits and tea/coffee making facilities is sup- plied. There are wireless Internet hotspots lo- cated throughout the building. OPTIONAL: Great white shark dive excursion. July 12 - FULL DAY PENINSULA TOUR Your tour today starts with the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, before crossing over to Hout Bay, where you may choose to join an optional boat cruise to Seal Island. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most breathtaking coastal drives, where a funicular takes you to the top of the Peninsula to witness the symbolic meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and enjoy spectacular views over False Bay. With a maximum of 20 guests at Buffalo Camp, special attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience the African bush.

Kapama Buffalo Camp has ten safari tents, up-holding the best traditions of a luxury safari camp. They are set on stilts high amongst the treetops overlooking a seasonal riverbed. The branches of bush willows and leadwood trees crowd towards your balcony, and as you scan the treetops, you might well look straight into the face of a vervet monkey staring right back at you. Raised wooden walkways connect the tented safari rooms and lead to the main lodge on the riverbank.

The wooden-floored tented rooms feature com-fortable beds with white linen and African design bedspreads. Fleecy throws and heated under blankets keep out the cold on winter nights. Like any other luxury bedroom, Buffalo Camp suites have an en-suite bathroom with a large stand alone bath and shower with uninterrupted views of the surrounds. Leather and dark wood finishes give the decor an old African touch.

July 15 - 19 - EXPLORE KAPAMA RESERVE

Explore Kapama Reserve for the next few days. Kapama's 13000 hectares has all the big game of Africa with 42 mammal species and approxi-mately 350 bird species. This equates to huge natural diversity and includes the famed 'Big 5' - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Game drives are conducted through the rolling savannah grasslands and riverine forests that make up this appealing African reserve. The Klaserie River flows through the reserve and offers ideal prowl-ing grounds for leopard. Enjoy early morning, late afternoon and evening game drives in open Land Rovers with experienced field rangers and track-ers. You can also do an optional (for a fee) guided bush walk, or simply relax by the pool.

KAPAMA BUFFALO CAMPGuernsey Road | Off R40Hoedspruit 1380, South Africa

Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and inti-mate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort.Ten luxury newly build canvas tents, each sleep-ing two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gar-dens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special inti-mate ambience particular to Buffalo Camp.
