WEATHERING STEELWeathering steel is a construction/engineering-grade steel alloy with enhanced weather resistance capabilities when compared to standard steels. Weathering steel’s copper-rich composition (when exposed to the atmosphere) naturally creates an oxidized ‘rust’ patina forming a protective surface coating which inhibits corrosion. Weathering steel was originally developed in the USA in the 1930’s under the trade name of Cor-Ten and, whilst there are now other manufacturers of equivalent material, Cor-Ten (or Corten) has become the most commonly used industry term when referring to weathering steel. While typical construction applications for weathering steel include bridges, rolling stock and shipping containers, the distinctive and striking aesthetic qualities have led to it’s increased use in architectural projects. In more recent years, weathering steel has become an ever popular material used in the landscaping palette. Weathering steel does not need sealing and requires very little maintenance although it is advisable to remove salt build up in coastal conditions. In the early stages of rusting it can cause drip stains but this will stabilize over several months (or such time as it takes for the material to developed it’s all-over protective rust coating) and care should be taken not to rub against the rusted finish as it can stain clothes.

MILD STEELMild steel is a great laser cutting option for painted internal screens or artwork. We do not recommend painted mild steel for exterior uses as any damage to the paintwork will enable rusting to occur and subsequent paint failure. We paint sheets in 2-Pac enamel, which offers a highly durable exterior finish and is available for color-matching.

METAL options

ALUMINUMAluminum is a naturally corrosion resistant and light weight material and is ideally suited for external applications where a painted finish is required. We paint sheets in Dulux® powder coatings which offer a highly durable exterior finish and are available in over 100 colors. If left uncoated, aluminum will naturally oxidize to create a protective coating. Its appearance will however dull from an original bright look to more of a matte finish. In order to extend the effective life of powder coating, a very simple but regular maintenance program should be implemented for the removal of any residues.

CARE & MAINTENANCEThe effects of ultra violet light, pollution, dirt, grime and salt deposits can all accumulate on your powder coated surface over time. To extend the effective life of powder coating and protect any warranty requirements that may exist, a very simple regular maintenance program should be implemented for the removal of any residues. As a general rule, cleaning should take place every six months. However, in areas where pollutants are more prevalent, especially in coastal or industrial regions, a cleaning program should be carried out on a more frequent basis (i.e. every three months). To clean your powder coated surface: 1. Carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge

2. Use a soft brush (non abrasive) or cloth, and a mild household detergent solution to remove dust, salt and other deposits.

3. Rinse off with fresh water Detergents that recommend the use of gloves when handling should be avoided as this is a good indication that the detergent is harsh and therefore, unsuitable for cleaning your powder coating. Although some strong solvents are recommended for removing sealants or other building residues, these may be harmful to the extended life of the powder coated surface and should be avoided as the damage may not be visible immediately and may take up to twelve months to appear. If paint splashes, sealants or other residue need to be removed, then either Methylated Spirits, Turpentine or White Spirits may be used safely.

WHAT IS CORIAN?Source Outdoor is proud to offer Du Pont brand Corian. Corian’s primary use is as a counter-top/ bench-top surface, though it has many other applications such as screens or fences. Corian is non-porous, stain resistant, and seamless. In the fabrication process, joints can be made invisible by joining the relevant pieces with Corian’s own color-matched two-part acrylic epoxy. The pieces are clamped tightly together in order to press out any excess adhesive. After the adhesive dries, the area is sanded and polished to create a seamless joint. This seamless appearance is a signature characteristic of the material. Corian is also repairable and renewable; cuts and scratches can be buffed out with a sander.

Corian comes in a variety of color options including natural stone and marble-like appearances. These colors are guaranteed to never fade. Corian is also resistant to rain thanks to its low moisture absorption and coefficient expansion. It can resist extreme freezing and thawing in the winter, and is also resistant to chemicals, detergents, and environmental pollutants making it ideal for indoor or outdoor use.

MAXIMUM SHEET SIZES AVAILABLE: Because of Corian’s ability to be cut and glued seamlessly, it can be modified to any size needed.

POWERMAT TECHNOLOGIESDu Pont, Source Outdoor, and Powermat are pleased to provide wireless charing integrated into your Corian solid surface. Powermat (PMA) technology works through the transfer of magnetic energy (induction), not electricity. Therefore it can be used without the fear of wet surfaces or nearby water features. By placing a PMA compatible device (connected to a compatible adapter or PMA case) a “handshake” occurs between the surface and the device transferring energy wirelessly to charge it. The compatible adapters and cases also monitor the energy transfer so that overcharging does not occur and it will stop sending power once the battery is full. MAINTENANCE & CARECorian comes in a matte/ satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. However, the below care instructions apply to all types of Corian. Washing with soap and water is usually sufficient to remove surface dirt and stains. Ammonia based liquid cleaner (not window cleaner) may also be used. Always rinse the surface thoroughly and wipe dry. Drying is an important step to prevent the build up of soap film or cleaning residue. Stubborn cleaning residue can be easily removed by a sponge. For darker colors, a polish may be used to enhance the shine. Furniture polish may be used unless there is a possibility for food contact, in which case a polish formulated for food contact areas should be used. Polishing pads can be used to remove stubborn stains and even remove some minor scratches restoring your surface to a “like new” condition. PATTERN VARIATIONSWe offer variations of the patterns listed in this catalog. These variations include alternating patterns where every other panel has a secondary pattern. This can be a different design or it can be the punch out of the design dependent on the pattern. We also offer continuous patterns where we will use the selected pattern and create a single long design that flows cohesively as a whole throughout the entire screen so long as it is made up of several panels.


DECOR fencesFENCINGLaser cut screens can be used in a variety of ways to create striking boundary fences, feature walls, and balustrades using either aluminum or weathering steel. These features can accent interior or exterior areas. Whether you’re sectioning off a section of a garden, park, restaurant, or accenting your own home, these fences will certainly add a level of uniqueness to any area. Unlike screens, the fences are built with no gaps and we also offer gates to complete any fence that can be made in a matching or similar pattern.

GATES & DOORSStunning gates can be made using either aluminum or weathering steel.
