    POSITION PAPER 1

    Hanneke Kassies

    Mr. Rankin

    April 8, 2014

Source-Based Position PaperTo what extent should internationalism be pursued?

To be able to understand the quote " "The most tragic paradox of our time is to be found in

the failure of nation-states to recognize the imperatives of internationalism." By Earl Warren, you

need to understand what the quote is trying to tell people. A society, in the process of moving

forward often appears to be tearing itself apart. He means that the paradox of this time is that the

nations can't see how they need to co-operate with others. The second part of the quote uses the

word imperatives which means a lot of request for something, in this case that would be

internationalism which basically means co-operation. Earl Warren understands that there needs to

be an urgent change in the internationalism, in my opinion the quote is pro-internationalism the

message he is sending through the quote is directed toward the anti-internationalists.
