Sons Of Liberty

The Beginning

• The sons of liberty were know to have begun in 1765

• They would draw huge crowds so that they could preach about the freedom of their own nation.

• They could discuss rebelling against England.

Who were the Sons Of Liberty?

• This group was made up of shop keepers, artisans, mechanics, and labors.

• They were must often lead by gentlemen of property and standing.

• Without these men and woman it is believe that the Revolutionary War would have never happened.

Origin of the Name

• There were man names for this organization such as “sons of freedom”, “liberty boys”, and “daughters of Liberty”.

• But the most mainly known name for the organization is the Sons of Liberty.

What was their point

• They were know as the primary agitators in the fight for independence from Britain

• They were very forcefully in their actions

• Were know to get what they wanted

• The organization eventually ended in the results of the independence from Britain

The Methods they Used

• They used many method in the efforts to gain independence from Britain.

• They organized groups, and protest.

• Published newspapers, and handed out handbills.

• Forced officials of the king to resign.

• They also didn’t hesitate to us force when necessary.

Events

• So as you know it began in August of 1765, by November 6th of that same year they had a council for the Sons Of Liberty it was in New York.

• This council had representatives from each colony in it.

Events continued

• In 1765 the Sons of Liberty were widely to blame for the repealing of the stamp act they helped to undermine the taxing of certain goods and stamps. People boycotted, petitioned, and eventually used violence, it worked the Stamp Act was repealed in May of 1766.

More Events

• They also put up a liberty pole to celebrate the repeal of the Stamp Act.

• In 1773 the Sons of Liberty put out a letter in direct opposition of the tea act.

• They were directly to blame for the boston tea party as well.

• The men in the boat dressed as Native Americans were all part of the Sons of Liberty
