NIGHTLIFE AND EVENTS......In CornwallNightlife and events in Cornwall have dramatically in-

creased over the recent years, with events getting more and more popular both with the local crowd and all over the country, with people venturing down to attend. From the Eden project hosting music events to the pubs and clubs ever changing to fit the demand of the public. With the amount of variety there is the Cornish nightlife scene can only get bigger and better.

Matthew Burtwell, otherwise known as Dj Mannerz, is a 20 year old up and coming drum and bass dj in Cornwall. He is a resident at club 2k in Penzance, hosting his own drum and bass night ‘Restless’ along with other residents. Matt started off his career with a simple set of decks, in his barn at home, mixing for friends and parties. His career kicked off when he was asked to host the drum and bass night ‘Shokk Out’ which was the first big drum and bass night in the town, hosting a range of international big names from the drum and bass scene. After the night got known, he along with the other residents were asked to play at bigger clubs in Newquay. Restless is always busy and always have a really good atmosphere. This night is for lovers of drum and bass and everyone who goes is really passionate about the music.

The Eden project in St Austell, a place of beauty, holds music events throughout the year, now known as the Eden sessions, these gigs host a variety of well known artists. One event that stood out this year was the drum and bass awards where thousands of fans flooded in to the domes for 3 rooms of music. The location itself is a stunning place to host these events and the atmosphere is amazing.

Events Square, Falmouth

Events Square in Falmouth plays host to all sorts of events and this Christmas is no different when ‘Winter Wonderland’ comes to Falmouth, including a Christmas lightsparade, Carol singing and hot festive food.

Poldark mine, a tin mine that had produced the material since 1886, is now the host of one of the biggest and most random parties in Cornwall. The out buildings of the mine have now been converted into a space with two bars, two large dance floors, and a space for live performers. The performers have included a cross dressing boy band and acrobats that hang over the main dance floor. The unique thing about the Poldark parties is the themes, these range from ‘Mad hatters’ to ‘Vamp’, and everyone is expected to dress with no entry for no effort. These parties are held an average of 3 times a year which makes it one of the most sort after parties in Cornwall, with tickets selling out fast. Tickets cost £12, so are a bit pricey, but it is definitely worth it as they have a late license until 4am which gives you 7 hours of hard partying. The next Poldark party is New Years Eve and you should expect the organisers to

Kris Kool is an international Dj who hosts the fastest growing weekly student night in Cornwall; ‘SIN’. For him this is not a hobby or a second income, this is his profession and definitely his passion and is proud of the fact that he is both good enough, and lucky enough to make it his career. Kris has lived and played in many counties abroad, from small private socials to opening for Song/BMG to a crowd of 20,000.He is known for the unique styles in which he plays and puts together which makes SIN nights very popular and there is no-one else in Cornwall or maybe even further afield that covers the genres of music that he does on one particular night. Whether he’s mixing house, scratching Hip-Hop or playing chilled sounds, Kris never fails to bring the crowds in, and is definitely one to watch in the area. Heres an interview with the man himself.Q) How long have you been Dj-ing and what do you enjoy most about it?

A) As a profession, I have dj’ed 27 years. But I first put on music for people at a Baptist youth club back in 1973!!!

Q) What/Who influences you?

A) I have been influenced by NO dj, I just love music. One song may bring sad memories to one person, yet to another it will bring joy. Music is so powerful.

Q) How long has it taken to promote the SIN nights and get them to the popular level that they are now?

A) When I began SIN, the venue I chose, was not popular at all. My first SIN event had three guests, myself, 2 friends and that was it, by 6 mondays it was happening, by the 10th SIN it was packed. I think the people that attended, appreciated something different music wise.

Q) Is there any up and coming events in Cornwall that you will be mak-ing an appearance at? Including any SIN nights that are coming up in the near future.

A) SIN is each and every Monday, come rain or shine. I hope to be involved with BeachBreak live, Ripcurl and some other happenings next year. There is a lot of interest for me to take SIN as a regular or one off event to Perth, Australia; Norway and several uni’s in the UK.

Q) What is the Dj scene in Cornwall like in comparison to internation-ally?

A) There are some talented DJ’s down here, but most the best ones would have had experience in a broader arena i.e. above the Tamar and further afield. Mind you DJ’s as with Musicians, some of the best ones are never discovered. Up country it is more like a music mafia, it is who you know and not necessarily how talented you are.

Happy Hour..

Prepare to eat your nights away, get the coffee out and prepare your night caps because this game will take away any if all of you free time. The full-screen match action also possesses a collection of superb and effective shortcuts that allow you to make myriad changes without ever taking your eye off the ball. Touchline orders can now be barked at your play-ers, and range from commands to retain possession to sitting deeper or pushing up the pitch. Although criticized in the past for being a little bit too slow especially if played on a lower standard computer, the new edition is still in some places slow but a lot quicker than the last editions. How do you feel if you wanted to be the next Fergie or do you think you could do a better job at Liverpool than current manager Rafa Benitez? This game enables you to live the life of a football manager, dealing with the typical pre Madonna’s who believe they are too big for the club and the loyal players who refuse to move although they are way past there sell by date. While Championship Manager 2010 may have raised its game in a number of key departments, FM2010 remains in a league of its own in the field of match realism, though once again you should prepare yourself for a smattering of irritating bugs and glitches, such as the on-pitch action occa-sionally jamming for extended periods which can be annoying but the positives outshine the negativity. There are more players and teams added and the players speak out more that gives of a sense of reality. If a players not happy you will know about it and if you feel a players been performing badly you can let them know about it in a verbal way. The new game is cleaner, slicker and more realistic than ever before. Sports interactive have stepped into new depths with this game and if the obvious tweaks are sorted out for next year’s edition then the job vacancy line may just get a little shorter.

The best football management simulation of all time is back! After totally outselling its main rival Championship manager over the past couple of years the new model is the best yet. With lots of new features that make the game stand out as the most realistic management game around. The improved A.I and the feature of being able to shout out instructions makes you feel as if you are actually managing your favorite club. This game truly adds feeling to the world of management. When you play the game you feel secure in management mode. Sports Interactive have clearly taken many of the criti-cisms on board. One hundred new animations and animated crowds have been added, giving the game match day experi-ences that are beginning to do justice to the un rivaled real-ism of Football Manager 2010's engine. First impressions of the game are mixed. As your eyes scan the new visual style your mind churns, first rejecting the unusual new visual ap-proach, then, just hours later, welcoming the new features as it begins proving its worth.

The graphics have improved but sometimes the play glitches and pauses for several seconds which may get annoying. The game's developers have expanded on the 3D match engine first introduced in Football Manager 2009, with more animations, stadia, and even pitch degradation. Improvements could still have been made but overall the graphics have gone a long way since the start of the series but still not perfect. The limited movement of players in the match engine still lets the graphics down.

Sound IPod is essential for playing this game!! The commentary is non existent the only sound is the cheering crowds which positively adds that Saturday football feeling to the pitch.

Lifespan

Rainy day? Sunny day? No matter what the weathers like you will be playing this game from A.M to P.M.

Work take note on the release off this game expect a few “sickys” to be pulled. One of the most addictive

games of all time. You will spend hours on end trying to get little Plymouth Argyle to the Premiership with

little cash. 10/10

Football Manager 2008 The game ran smoother than ever . The stats were improved and the new ability to speak to your players openly before and after the games. Praising how they did or shouting at them.

Football Manager 2009 This is the first edition were the 3D match play was introduced and it was a success. The ability to be able to speak to your players more openly and declare interest in other players as well as vocalize negative feedback bout rival managers.

As you can see the game has certainty evolved from the first edition of the series back in 2005. There were no 3D match play just little dots running around the pitch so the new game certainly takes a toll on just how far the companies have gone to meet fans demands. The covers of the games them-selves all have the same image but in different colors that stand out. The games cover was very standard on 2005 edition but nowadays there is lots of color that stand out and would leap out of the gaming charts in an appealing way that attracts you to want to buy the game.

Football Manager 2007 In the 2007 edition the graphics were im-proved but still not perfect. Things ran smoother and the skins were cleaner and more efficient.

Football Manager 2006 In the 2006 edition stats were im-proved and the game ran a lot quicker but the graphical side to the game still let it down massively.

Football Manager 2005 In the 2005 edition there was no 3D ani-mation it was simply just dots running around the pitch. This was good at the time for management games as the man-agement games were slowing developing into something successful .

Championship Manager 10 8/10

Fifa Manager 10 6/10

Decent competition for the sports interactive team. But with too many bugs and the old annoying factors that have haunted Champi-onship manager since Football manager came around. Fifa manager yet again doesn’t live up to the expectation. The graphics are fantas-tic but Football manager has proved you don’t have to be beautiful to be the best around. Worse than Nothing around at the moment. This is the best football manage-ment simulation around today!

Final score The hugely agreeable database remains while the customizing options are second to none. I was really impressed by the new Championship Manager, so big rival Football Manager has tough competition at last. It’s a good result for Football Manager – Championship Manager needs to equalize once more. And the final re-sult is in… it’s a narrow win for FM after extra time and penalties. Maybe next year lads?

Best bits The thrill of winning the Premiership with a little team E.g. Hull city Transfers feel smoother and more realistic than ever be-fore Tactics creator. Why was this not a feature a long time ago? Cheering crowds. Just adds that extra pressure to the derby day.

Worst bits Limited movements of the players Slow in places with some glitches and defaults The fixtures seem to take forever to load Press conference system is basic
