To set the clock

1 Turn on the system.

3 Set the time.

Use the same procedure to set the minute.

When you turn off the system after setting the clock,

the clock display appears instead of the demonstration

display.

The clock settings are lost when you discotmect the

Notes on Repeat Play

• All tracks or tiles on a disc are played repeatedl> up to five times.• You cannot select "REP" and "ALL DISCS SHUF" at the same

time.

• "REP 1" indicates that a single track or file is repeated until youstop it.

Notes on playing MP3 discs• Do not save other types ol tiles or unnecessary t'ohlers on a disc that

has "ATRAC" and MP3 files.

• Folders that have no "ATRAC" and MP3 files are skipped.

• "ATRAC" aud MP3 tiles are played back in the order that they arerecorded onto the disc.

• The system can only play MP3 tiles that have a tile exteusion of".MP3."

• If there are files on the disc that have the ".MP3" file extension,

but that are not MP3 files, the unit may produce noise or maymalt'uuction.

• The maximum number of':"ATRAC" Rdders is 255.

"ATRAC" files is 999.

MP3 liqders is 255 (including the root {'older).MP3 files is 511.

MP3 files aud li)lders that can be contained on a single disc is 512.lk)lder levels (the tree structure of files) is 8.

• Compatibilil? with all MP3 encoding/writing sol}ware, recordingdevice, and recording media cannot be guaranteed. IncompatibleMP3 discs may produce noise or interrupted audio or may not playat all.

• If "ATRAC" files and MP3 tiles arc recorded on the same disc, this

system plays the "ATRAC" tiles first.

Notes on playing multisession discs

• II the disc begins with a (-'[)-DA (or "ATRAC"/MP3) session, it isrecognized as a CD-DA (or "ATRAC"/MP3) disc, and other sessionsare not played back.

• A disc with a mixed CD liwmat is recognized as a CD-DA (audio)disc.

Listening to the radio

To listen to FM or AM1 Select "FM" or"AM."

2 Select the tuning mode.

Press TUNING MODE [_ repeatedly until "AUTO"

appears.

3 Tune in the desired station.

tuned in, and then "TUNED" and "STEREO" (for

stereo programs) appear.

3 Tune in the desired channel.

Creating your own CD program(ProgramPlay)

Use buttons on the remote to create your own program.

1 Press CD [_ to select the CD function.

2 Press PLAY MODE [_ repeatedly until "PGM"appears while the player is stopped.

3 Press DISC SKIP _ to select a disc.

4 Press I_1_1/1_1_1[_ repeatedly or turn the jogdial [_ on the unit until the desired track numberappears.

When programming "ATRAC" files or MP3 files,press (_ +/- (select folder) [_ repeatedly or turn the

jog dial [_ on the unit to select the desired folder, andthen select the desired file.

To view program information, such as totaltrack number of the programPress DISPLAY [_ repeatedly.

TipYou can program additional tracks or tiles during playback by, usingthe jog dial.

PresettingradiostationsYou can preset your favorite radio stations and tunethem in instantly by selecting the corresponding presetuumbel:

You can preset up to 20 FM, l0 AM and 20 XMstations. The preset stations are retained for about half

a day even if you discomlect the power cord or if a

power failure occurs.

6 To call up a preset radio station, press TUNING

MODE [_ repeatedly until "PRESET" appears,and then press +1- [_ repeatedly to select thedesired preset number.

Usingthe TimersThe system offers two timer functions. If you use PlayTimer with the Sleep Timer, the Sleep Timer has priority.

Sleep Timer:You can fall asleep to music. This function works even ifthe clock is not set.

Press SLEEP [_ on the remote repeatedly. If you select

"AUTO." the system automatically turns off after thecurrent disc stops or in 100 minutes.

Play Timer:You can wake up to CD or tuner at a preset time.

Use buttons on the remote to control the Play Timer

Make sure you have set the clock.

1 Prepare the sound source.

Prepare the sound source, and then press VOLUME+/- [_ to adjust the volume.

To start from a specific CD track, "ATRAC" file orMP3 file, create your own CD program.

2 Press CLOCK/TIMER SET [_.

3 Press I_1_1/1_1_1_ repeatedly to select "PLAYSET" then press ENTER [_.

"ON" appears, and the hour indication flashes.

4 Set the time to start playing.

Press 1_141/1_1_1[_ repeatedly to set the hour,and then press ENTER E_.

The minute indication flashes. Use the procedureabove to set the minute.

5 Use the same procedure as in step 4 to set thetime to stop playing.

6 Select the sound source.

Press I._1_1/1_1_1[_ repeatedly until the desired

sound source appears, and then press ENTER [_. The

display shows the timer settings.

7 Press I/@ (power) [_ to turn off the system.

The system turns on 15 seconds before the preset

time. If the system is on at the preset time, the PlayTimer will not play.

To activate or check the timer againPress CLOCK/TIMER SELECT [_, press 1_14111_1_1[_ repeatedly until "PLAY SEL" appears, and then press

ENTER [_.

To cancel the timer

Repeat the same procedure as above until "TIMER OFF"

appears, and then press ENTER [_.

To change the settingStart over from step I.

TipThe Play Timer setting remains as lung as the setting is nut canceled

manually.

Make sure the power cord and speaker cords arecorrectly and firmly connected.

Find your problem in the checklist below, andtake the indicated corrective action.

If the issue persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer.

If the STANDBYindicator flashesImmediately unplug the power cord, and check the

following item.

• If your system has a voltage selector, is the voltageselector set to the correct voltage'?

• Are you using only the supplied speakers?

• Is anything blocking the ventilation holes on the rearof the system'?

After the STANDBY indicator [_ stops flashing,

recomlect the power cord, and turn on the system. If

the issue persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer

General

The display starts flashing as soon as youplug in the power cord even though youhave not turned on the system.• Press DISPLAY [_ twice while the system is off. The

demonstration disappears.

Sound comes from one channel, or the leftand right volumes are unbalanced.• Place the speakers as symmetrically as possible.• Comlect only the supplied speakers.

Severe hum or noise.

• Move the system away from sources of noise.

• Comlect the system to a different wall socket.

• Install a noise filter (available separately) to the powercord.

The remote does not function.

• Remove any obstacles between the remote and theremote sensor [_ on the unit, and position the unit

away from fluorescent lights.

• Point the remote at the system's sensor

• Move the remote closer to the system.

The STANDBY indicator [] remains lit after

unplugging the power cord.• The STANDBY indicator [_ may not turn off

immediately after unplugging the power cord. Thisis not a malfunction. The indicator will turn off afterabout 40 seconds.

CD/MP3 player

The sound skips, or the disc will not play.

• Wipe the disc clean, and replace it.

• Move the system to a location away fl'om vibration (forexample, on top of a stable stand).

• Move the speakers away flom the system, or placethem on separate stands. At high volume, speakervibration may cause the sound to skip.

Play does not start from the first track.• Return to Normal Play by pressing PLAY MODE [_

repeatedly until both "PGM" and "SHUF" disappear.

Starting playback takes more time than usual.

• The following discs take a longer time to start playback.

-a disc recorded with a complicated tree structure.-a disc recorded in multisession mode.

-a disc that has not been finalized (a disc to which datacan be added).

-a disc that has many folders.

Tuner

Severe hum or noise, or stations cannot bereceived.

• Com]ect the antem]a properly.

• Find a location and an orientation that provide goodreception, and then set up the antemm again.

• Keep the antemms away from the speaker cords and thepower cord to avoid picking up noise.

• Comlect a commercially available external antemm.

• Consult your nearest Sony dealer if the supplied AMantemm has come off the plastic stand.

• Turn off nearby electrical equipment.

XM

The system cannot receive channels at all.

• Check that the XM Com]ect-and-Play antem]a iscomlected.

• The receiving condition is not good. Move to the placewhere the condition is good.

• Check that you subscribed (see "To receive the XMSatellite Radio").

"TUNING" keeps appearing and channelscannot be received, or "ERR XXXX (XXXXare alphameric characters)" appearsfrequently.• Press I/Q) (power) [_ to turn off the system, and

press the button again to turn on the system. If theissue persists, the XM Comlect-and-Play antemm may

be broken. Have the antemm repaired or replace theantemm with another antemm.

To change the AM tuning intervalThe AM tuning interval is factory-preset to 10 kHz.

Use buttons on the unit to change the AM tuning interval.

1 Tune in any AM station, and then turn off the

system.

2 While holding down I_I_t>L>D [_, press I/_(power) [_.

All the AM preset stations are erased. To reset theinterval to the factory preset, repeat the procedure.

You cmmot change the AM tuning interval in Power

Saving Mode.

To improve tuner receptionTurn off CD player power by using the CD power

management function. By defimlt, CD power is turned on.

You cannot change the setting in Power Saving Mode.Use buttons on the unit to turn off CD player power.

1 Press CD/I_II (play/pause) [_ to select the CDfunction.

2 Press I/@ (power) _ to turn off the system.

3 After "STANDBY" stops flashing, press I/@(power) _ while holding ENTER [_.

"CD POWER" and "OFF" appear. With CD playerpower turned off, disc access time is increased. To

turn on CD player power, repeat the procedure until

"CD POWER" and "ON" appear

Toreset thesystemto factory settingsIf the system still does not operate properly, reset the

system to factory settings. You cmmot reset the system tofactory settings in Power Saving Mode.

Use buttons on the unit to reset the unit to its factory

default settings.

1 Disconnect and reconnect the power cord, andthen turn on the system.

2 Press PLAY MODE/TUNING MODE [_,DISPLAY [_ and I/@ (power) _ at the sametime.

All user-configured settings, such as preset radio

stations, timer, and the clock, are deleted.

CANT LOCK : The system cam]ot be locked after

you have done the procedure of "When carrying thissystem." Turn the power off and then on again bypressing I/Q) (power) [_ on the unit, then perform

the procedure.CD OVER : You have reached the end of the disc while

pressing _ (fast forward) [_ during playback or

pause.

COMPLETE : The preset operation ended normally.

LOCKED : The disc tray does not open. Contact yournearest Sony dealer

NO DISC : There is no disc in the player, or you haveloaded a disc that cmmot be played.

NOT IN USE : You pressed an invalid button.PUSH SELECT : You tried to set the clock or timer

during timer operation.

PUSH STOP : You pressed PLAY MODE [_ during

playback.SET CLOCK : You tried to select the timer when the

clock is not set.

SET TliViER : You tried to select the timer when the

Play Timer is not set.

STEP FULL :You tried to program more than 26 tracks

or files (steps).

TIME NG : The Play Timer start and end times are set tothe same time.

XMANTENNA : The XM Com]ect-and-Play antem]a is not

comlected. Check the comlection of the antemm cord,

and then turn the system on again.CH - - - : You have entered an invalid chmmel number

The chmmel to be tuned-in is void due to the changeby the broadcast service, or the receiving condition isnot good.

LOADING : The system have not finished receiving theentire audio data or text information. Some buttons arenot available.

NO SIGNAL : The receiving condition is not good. Trymoving the antemm to another location. Make sure

the antemm points south. For details about the antennalocation, see the instructions supplied with the XMComlect-and-Play antemm.

OFF AIR : The chain]el is not broadcasted now.

UPDATING :You have not subscribed for XM or thechmmel is not authorized. You need to subscribe for

XM.

- - - : There is no text information or time information

in the chmmel. This is not an errol: The text

information may not be displayed depending on thesystem condition, for example, right after the systemhas received a chmmel.

Notes on discs

• Before playing, wipe the disc with a cleaning clothfrom the center out to the edge.

• Do not clean discs with solvents, such as benzinethimler, or commercially available cleaners or anti-

static spray intended for vinyl LPs.

• Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or heat sources

such as hot air ducts, nor leave it in a car parked indirect sunlight.

On safety

• The unit is not discomlected from the AC power source(mains) as long as it is comlected to the wall socket,even if the unit itself has been turned off.

• Completely discomlect the power cord (mains lead)from the wall socket (mains) if it is not going to beused for an extended period of time. When unplugging

the unit, always grip the plug. Never pull the corditself.

• Should any solid object or liquid get into the system,

unplug the system, and have it checked by qualifiedpersomlel before operating it again.

• The AC power cord can be changed only by a qualified

service facility.

On placement• Do not place the system in an inclined position or in

locations that are extremely hot, cold, dusty, dirty, orhumid or lacking adequate ventilation, or subject tovibration, direct sunlight or a bright light.

• Be careful when placing the unit or speakers onsurfaces that have been specially treated (for example,

with wax, oil, polish) as staining or discoloration of thesurface may result.

• If the system is brought directly from a cold to a warm

location or is placed in a very damp room, moisturemay condense on the lens inside the CD player, andcause the system to malfunction. [n this situation,remove the disc, and leave the system turned on for

about a few hours until the moisture evaporates.

On heat buildup

• Heat buildup on the unit during operation is normal andis not cause for alarm.

• Do not obstruct the ventilation holes.

On the speaker systemThis speaker system is not magnetically shielded, and

the pictme on nearby TV sets may become magneticallydistorted. In this situation, turn off the TV. wait 15 to 30

minutes, and turn it back on.

If there is no improvement, move the speakers far awayfrom the TV.
