The CDC issued new guidance that recommends universal indoor masking in certain parts of the country. The CDC has explained that this guidance was prompted by several factors that are con-tribu�ng to an up�ck in cases in certain areas, including lagging vaccine rates and the emergence of the highly transmissible Del-ta variant. The CDC recommends that everyone in those areas with “substan�al or high” levels of transmission wear a mask in public, indoor se�ngs.

Mayor Bowser announced that DC is re-ins�tu�ng a universal, indoor masking mandate for everyone, even those fully vaccinat-ed. This new requirement took effect on July 31 at 5:00 am Governor Hogan announced also that he is reviewing the new CDC guidance.

Prince George’s County has announced that it is also re-ins�tu�ng universal, indoors masking foe everyone (even those fully vaccinated) in public loca�ons, effec�vely August 8 at 5:00 pm.

Neither Maryland nor DC has indicated that any changes will be coming to indoor capacity restric�ons. At present, churches may remain at full capacity.

We will con�nue to monitor the situa�on and no�fy you if any new restric�ons are imposed locally.

Dear parishioners, It’s with a sadness that we informed you that our beloved Mrs. Lucille Ven-demia passed away on Saturday August 14. Mrs. Vendemia was the school secretary at St. Am-brose Catholic School from 1976 un�l she re�red in 2010. She spent years performing volunteer

work with the Sodality and Ladies of Charity at St. Ambrose. Wake service will be August 22 at Fannon Hall from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm an the Funeral service will be August 23 at 11:00 am here at St. Ambrose Church. In your kindness and charity please remember Mrs. Vendemia in your prayers.

La CDC emi�ó una nueva guía que recomienda el uso de cubre bocas en ciertas partes del país. First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and told them if it did not please them to serve God, then they must decide who they would serve. The people claimed that God had brought them out of slavery and protected them on their journey. There-fore, they would serve, the Lord their God, and no one else. Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32 Husbands and wives should love one another as Christ loved the Church. They should nourish and care for each other as Christ cared for the church. Through the union between the two, they become one. Gospel: John 6:60-69 Many of Jesus' followers were s�ll disturbed by his teaching of the living bread, which they could not yet fully understand. Jesus explained that the Spirit gives life, and flesh is unimportant. Some of the disciples decided to leave. Jesus asked if the Twelve also wanted to leave. Although they do not completely understand yet, they have enough faith in Jesus to stay because they believe he is God's holy one.

Primera Lectura: Josué 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b Josué reunió a todas las tribus de Israel y les dijo que si no querían servir a Dios, debían decidir a quién servirían. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.’ ...Many of the disciples who were listening said, ‘This is a hard saying, who can accept it?’” Joshua, the successor of Moses, challenged the people. How o�en in the scrip-tures we come to moments of great decision. Mary was asked to be the Mother of God. She said yes. Peter and the apostles were summoned to leave the fishing industry and tax collectors booth. Saints and Martyrs throughout the ages, made their heroic decisions. Missionaries traveled to bring the gospel to others. Now it is my turn. Surely, as the hymn says, ‘We have decided to follow Jesus.’ But do we only when it is convenient? In moments of stress, or at the �me to make a moral decision, what wins, convenience and ease or witness and commitment? Maybe we should begin by realizing that the Chris�an life is a challenge, supported by God’s gi� of grace, allowing us to make a firm decision to improve. The Chris�an life is not to be a life of comfort, but it is comfor�ng to know that Jesus Christ supports my decision to follow.

Seguramente, tal como lo dice el himno “Hemos decidido seguir a Jesús”. ¿Pero lo hacemos sólo cuando es conveniente? En momentos de estrés, o durante el �empo cuando tomamos una decisión moral, ¿qué gana, la conveniencia y la facilidad, o ates�guar y comprometerse? Quizá deberíamos empezar por darnos cuenta de que la vida Cris�ana es un reto, apoyada por el don de la gracia de Dios, permi�éndonos tomar una firme decisión de mejorar. La vida cris�ana no va a ser cómoda, pero es reconfortante saber que Jesucristo me apoya en mi decisión de seguirlo.
