Hearing Loss
On average , 1 Australian child is identified with impaired hearing every day
1 in 1000 babies is born with significant hearing loss
By age 10 the 1:1000 is 3:1000
Vision Loss
RIDBC estimates that 4 out of every 10,000 children born in Australia will be diagnosed with severe vision impairment or blindness by their first birthday.
Vision impairment is generally accompanied by another disability
RIDBC Provides
Early intervention programs for children from birth to 5 years.
5 preschool programs for children aged 3-5 years based on a reverse integration model, and support in mainstream preschools.
3 schools as well as a school support service for children with hearing or vision loss who attend mainstream schools.
Teleschool - A regional & remote service where families and children are receiving services via videoconference.
Assessment and planning services, including orthoptics and audiology.
Outreach programs in Indigenous Communities
Renwick Centre - a world class research program and postgraduate courses for professionals working with children with hearing or vision loss.
