Some background2007: Commission on Climate and Vulnerability : Sweden Facing Climate Change - Threats and Opportunities2009: The County Administrative Boards are given responsibility for coordinating climate change adaptation regionally. SMHI are tasked to support with climate information2012: SMHI is tasked to establish the National Knowledge Centre for Climate Change Adaptation2013: The County Administrative Boards are given the additional task to investigate local adaptation work and to develop regional action plans.

Who works with adaptation today?NATIONALLY no government authority has overall responsibility. Around 30 authorities have sector responsibilities.

REGIONALLY the County Administrative Boards have the overarching responsibility. Environmental protection, social care, communications, animal protection, agriculture, reindeer herding, planning, regional development, cultural heritage, the built environment, civil defence, emergency handling, rescue services.

LOCALLY the council has legal responsibility for controls and permits, for example under the Planning and Building Act. Water and sanitary systems, energy and waste, hospitals and schools. Emergency planning and rescue services.

AND ALSO trade associations, insurance companies, government, industry and an increasing interest from the general public.
