Bottler of non-alcoholic beverages for retailers Originally a carbonated soft drinks producer, the Spumador Group first branched out into the mineral water market in 1966 with the acquisition of the Fonte S. Antonio, acquiring a number of other springs in 1990. In 2011, Spumador became part of the Refresco Group, the leading European producer of non-alcoholic beverages, such as sodas, fruit juices, flavored water and mineral water. It is a co-packer for private brands in Italy, as well as being a producer of its own brands for the Italian market.

Most advanced, most competitive Spumador has continually invested in order to offer its customers products with a high perceived quality through the latest and the most cost-effective technology. When investing in the new complete water line with the latest generation of Sidel Matrix™ equipment, Spumador was looking for a fast line with high productivity for very lightweighted 0.5L water bottles. It was acquiring the most advanced beverage packaging technology from Sidel in order to remain most competitive in supplying single-serve water bottles.

Spumador turned to Sidel for its history of high performance“The first reason we chose Sidel, was definitely the technological aspect that was presented to us, with the latest technologies of the Sidel Matrix™ solutions which offer a revolutionary level of flexibility backed by reliable operation," explained Massimo Guffanti, Spumador Plant Manager. "The line allows us to come to market with a very light bottle with an improved finish, and with lower production costs. Above all, it gives the high performance needed for years to come in growing within the market - which was key to the project.” The second factor that contributed to Spumador’s decision is the excellent relationship both companies have built up over the years.

Ultra-lightweight and competitive - the obvious solutionSince 2010, Spumador has been working with Sidel to cut production costs, reduce emissions and to lighten its bottles. The 0.5L bottle was designed for sparkling water, in which the key element is a mechanical seal. The target was to achieve a bottle with a certain weight, without altering its mechanical properties. “The project enabled us to come up with a custom-designed bottle for still water, a 0.5L water bottle at 9.7 grams one of the lightest on the Italian market. It has a short neck with an ultra-light cap that weighs only 1 gram,” comments Massimo Guffanti. To produce the lightweighted bottle at high speed, an integrated blow-fill-cap solution - the Sidel Matrix Combi - was the obvious solution. The Matrix Rollfed labeller also boosts productivity through accelerated label application. “In technological terms, the new technology enables us to blow light bottles using lightened caps without problems. The line achieves our goal in terms of rated line productivity. Tests were conducted at 94% of the line’s effective performance, a source of great satisfaction for us,” explained Massimo Guffanti.
