Jacques Duboux is born in Lausanne in 1982. He lives and works in Vevey (CH), where he co-founded the artist-run space STADIO. He joined the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in the first half of 2018, then A-DASH in Athens during Autumn of the same year. His series Dyna-mies recently gave rise to a book published by TSAR Editions.

A graduate in Visual Arts from ECAL, his productions address the concept of 'affordance' and the intuitive relationship with objects. He infuses his sculptures with characteristics mainly geared towards their manipulation, while also awarding them performative qualities. Yet, the choice of material and the position of the works compromise their potential function and lead to a mental representation of gesture and movement.

L—es—T brings together two series. One is produced in a foundry, using lava from a ba-salt rock heated to its melting point, then cast in two different shapes in several copies. Dynamies 2017, steel

Dynamies is a series of 20 steel sculptures mea-suring from 90 to 290 cm. This set of spindly structures was designed based on two sources: an inventory of primary gestures (pushing, pul-ling, pressing, lifting) and a transcript of the artist’s physical proportions. It also combines two principles: saving on materials in the pro-duction of objects, and saving energy in their hypothetical manipulation.

Impliques 2017, oak, sandstone

Made between 2015 and 2017, Impliques consists of three sculptures, each of which takes the shape of an assembly of timber and stone elements, more precisely of oak and sandstone. Drawn from a sampling of func-tional components, the pieces suggest to be activated. However, their weight rules out the utilitarian purpose and reminds us their sculp-tural state.

B.A.R.D. 2014, granite

B.A.R.D. is a series of five granite sculptures, which appear like fictional objects sedimented in the rock. They have been conceived based on a repertoire of formal archetypes, which in a sense is the raw material for this work. The idea of ‘utensility’ that these works refer to, com-bined with the dignity of granite, results in an oscillation of the object’s status and our rela-tionship with it.
