“SOLINET changed my life. I attended a weeklong institute in1997, and 11 years later that institute continues to influencemy life. I realized that I have good ideas, and that institutegave me the confidence to voice those ideas and fight for mylibrary in the public arena. If I don’t ask, I’m not going to get.The one thing that changed me was that institute, and it wasput on by SOLINET.”

Dear Library Lover:

For 35 years, SOLINET has enabled libraries in the Southeastern states and theCaribbean to serve their communities more effectively. However, the future oflibraries has become a topic of ongoing speculation and passionate debate."What will communities need from us in the future? How do we increase ourvalue and secure support?"

As a membership organization, SOLINET's future is linked to your library's future. All of us, from the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team to theSOLINET staff, are deepening our understanding of the issues libraries face sothat we can continue to offer timely and proficient support.

The SOLINET cooperative consists of more than 3,600 members. Last yearSOLINET saved members more than $400 million, savings that allowed them toprovide more services and resources to their communities than they could havewithout membership.

Saving money is a good reason to be a member of SOLINET. But membershipaffords more than cost savings. Membership in SOLINET is about cooperating toadvance the library profession through best practices, standards, models andopen communication. It is sharing our resources to address critical needs, suchas helping libraries recover and rebuild after hurricanes and other naturaldisasters. Membership in SOLINET is a shared commitment to improve libraryservice.

SOLINET was founded on the premise that libraries can do more together thanindividually. That premise still holds true, even as what we do changes.

"SOLINET's consultant was exceedingly able and adroit. Notonly did we get help with our collection analysis, but we alsoreceived badly needed advice in our library's attempt to meetSACS's standards for continuing accreditation. As a result, the college is considering issues it was not otherwise inclinedto consider very seriously. We would repeat this consultingexperience with SOLINET without hesitation."
