OBJECTIVES• To investigate the potential of solar

energy to be converted to a form of energy that can be used to move an electric motor.

• To give exposure to students on building a solar car.

• To find a new energy source to replace fossil fuel

• Make people realize the importance of saving energy.

Maximum Speed At A Certain Brightness

Light is a source of energy for solar-powered cars. Solar panels convert the incident light into electricity and this electricity drives the motor that moves the car. The brighter the incident light on the solar panel, the higher is the electric power generated. Everything else being equal, a doubling of the intensity of the incident light will roughly double the electricity produced, and this will increase the speed of a car, but by less than

100% ,primarily because of disproportional increase in air drag on the car.

SCIENTIFIC THEORY How electric energy generates from solar energy

• Solar electric are made up of silicon, the same thing that makes up sand

• When sunlight hits a solar panel, it makes electron in the silicon move around.

• The electron flow through wires that were built in the solar panel and generates electricity.

INOVATION• Explanation Of Aerodynamic Design

• The body of a solar car is designed with two primary goals: providing a large top surface area for mounting solar cells, and being as aerodynamic as possible. Solar cars often have a smooth, wing-like shape ( aerofoil shape ) and covered wheels, which helps reduce aerodynamic drag.

INNOVATIONExplanation Of Chosen Ratio Gear

The faster the axle rotates in the bearing the more friction and drag it will have. A large wheel will allow the axle to rotate more slowly (if the car is to go at the same speed), and will waste less power in the bearings.

INNOVATION

REASON OF THE SUBSTANCE WE CHOSED:

• Our solar car is build using a bottle since bottle is a light substance which is potential to make the solar car moves faster and have a smooth body shape that makes the solar car more aerodynamic. It is also an easy to get substance and recycled.

• Our tires were made out of rubber because it has smooth surfaced to reduce the friction.

MODELING DESIGN • Specific explanation of solar car model :

• Height: 8.5cm

• Width: 8cm

• Weight: 500g

• Tyre diameter:3.5cm (back wheel) 3cm (front wheel)
