Optimiser TDI Bill Analytics for Telcos and their Customers

    * Typical customer report

  • Optimiser TDI is a software platform that allows Telcos provide bill analytics to their corporate, government, SME and consumer customers. It includes bill presentment, enterprise reporting, device reporting, policy management as well as providing intelligence for the Telco.

    Where is it hosted?

Optimiser TDI can be hosted in the data centre of the Telco or by Soft-ex in a ISO-27001-certified data centre with full redundancy on a virtualised environment sharing existing underlying hardware. The platform is based on the Microsoft BI stack and requires upwards of 3 virtual Windows servers depending on the volume of customers / data.

Where does it get its data from?

At is simplest, Optimiser TDI takes a feed of billing data from the billing system of the Telco. Typically the billing team within the Telco configure an export of data to take place after each billing cycle. The data is delivered by secure file transfer protocol (FTP) to the Optimiser TDI platform. The platform can take data feeds from multiple billing systems or other auxilliary sources (BI, CRM systems) to provide further information and reporting, e.g.

    Device reporting

    Aged Debt reporting

    Account Manager reporting

    Business Segment reporting

What type of data does it need?

The platform captures billing data (rentals, usage details, taxes) for fixed line, mobile or multi-play services. The billing data needs to include records for every call, text message and some level of data session information. These event records need a minimum of subscriber number, date, time, dialled number/service, cost for a meaningful analysis to be performed. The format of the data can be tab-delimited, CSV, DOC1, AFP, PDF or other (an adaptor will be created for each new data type).

How does the end-user get their reports?

The administrator within the Telco sets up an account for the first user in an enterprise. Thereafter the enterprise can self-serve by creating their own users at administrator and lower (restricted) levels. Users can get reports by logging in and selecting them from a menu. The user can apply their own criteria to narrow the focus of the reports. They can also choose to have the reports pushed out automatically by email.

  • What hardware/software is required to host this?

The hardware required depends on factors like the number of customers, the number of call records, the length of time for data retention and the modules of the platform that the Telco chooses. A typical system can run on three physical servers using virtualisation technology from VMware or Microsoft. There are five logical tasks being performed within the platform which are usually separated onto five separate virtual machines. Each virtual machine is a Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server (either Standard or Enterprise) is the database engine used. Response times of less than 2 seconds for a typical report can be achieved even on large systems (>500 million calls) by using the right mix of hardware and load balancing. Soft-ex engineers will recommend infrastructure that allows the Telco scale smoothly.

What type of reports do customers get?

There are many different reports available within the system (more than 70 overall) including zero-usage mobile, top landline phones, directory enquiry use, roaming data use, one-off charges. A report booklet showing samples of each is available on request.

Are there different level of users available to setup?

Yes. There are 3 standard user levels for the enterprise. Administrator access to all reporting. Group Level access to phones within the users group e.g. cost centre, dept. End-user access to own phone(s) only.

    Does it deliver branded bills?

Optimiser TDI will extract structured data from the billing files provided from the billing platform and store it. From this data a branded PDF is produced using the design and logo of the Telco. The branded bill is delivered through the web interface or by email depending on the preference of the customer.

How long is a typical roll-out?

Because Optimiser TDI involves very light-touch integration a deployment can be rolled out within 16 weeks of letter-of-intent. Soft-ex can do the branding based on the Telcos public web-site or can work with the Telco marketing and branding team. An adaptor is created for the specific format of the billing data being provided and a location for the transfer of data is agreed (this can be an secure FTP server hosted by Soft-ex). Additional sources of data can be discussed and agreed where necessary.

How much training is required to use Optimiser TDI?

Very little. Optimiser TDI is an intuitive easy to use reporting platform. A suite of popular reports are pre-set and available to use on demand. The user has to simply select the relevant report and select a month. A dedicated YouTube channel with short videos is available to support Optimiser TDI enterprise users. Full on-site training will be offered for Telco staff.
