New Committee Appointments

Mr Iain Bradbeer resigned from his position on the Committee and from his position on the Health Committee. The following appointments were ratified at the Club Meeting held on 7 March 2016:

Ms Lynnette Pezely to serve on the Committee and to join the Health Committee

Ms Jenny Maartens to join the Health Committee. We look forward to Lynnette and Jenny’s contributions to the work of the Club.

Ms Jenny Maartens has also been appointed Rescue Liaison Officer for the Club.

Health bulletin - Mrs Kate Butler

Kate Butler (Inchageela Wheaten Terriers), foundation secretary of the current club, suffered a heart

attack and stroke in March, and is now in a nursing home in Wentworth Falls. On behalf of all the

members of the club, I have sent Kate a beautiful wheaten card with our very best wishes. I am in

regular contact with Barry, her husband, who visits her every day. As usual, he takes their two wheatens

-- Rebel,15, and Nellie, 8 – to the Wentworth Falls dog park every day.

Breed Day, 2016 Purina Sydney Royal Easter Show On Wednesday, 30 April, our President and Secretary spent the day talking to the hundreds of people who were interested in our breed and were ably assisted by the lovely sisters Dara and Anatina. End of Summer Splash, Sunday 10 April 2016 Our End-of-Summer Splash at Battersea Park was a great success, due in no small part due to the sterling preparatory work done by Jenny, Trevor, Colleen and Flash in ensuring the picnic area was clean, and setting up the tables and chairs under the beautiful jacaranda tree. Thank you, Jenny, Trevor, Colleen and Flash. We had a five-star picnic: delicious mini quiches; pumpkin, smoked salmon, asparagus, Lorraine; chicken and artichoke sandwiches, mini chicken and avocado wraps, mini beef pies;

smoked salmon, asparagus and dill quiche; gluten-free tortilla; Spanish chorizo tortilla, Japanese sushi, crusty rolls, cheese and salami and lots of other delicious things. For dessert there was a decadent and delicious chocolate cake, lovely meringues and two delicious fruit platters.

The finale was a butter cake with butter-cream icing in the shape of a wheaten head. Delicious. We rounded off the day with everyone singing Happy Birthday to our little man who turned 13 on 4 April, and he seemed to enjoy all the singing, and I know he knew it was for him.

Sandra Pounder’s Dog Biscuits

Set oven to 180º 2 cups wholemeal flour 1 cup rolled oats 1/3 cup peanut butter( not the reduced sugar one) 1 ¼ cups water Mix all together to form a dough roll and cut into shapes Bake in oven 180º for 40 minutes then turn oven off and leave in to crisp and cool cool. You can add grated carrot or cheese! My wheatens love these and they keep really well in an airtight tin!

Future Events Berry Celtic Day – Saturday, 28 May 2016 - Irish Wolfhounds, Irish Terriers, Scotties and Westies to join us One of the organisers of the Berry Celtic Festival used to talk with us when we were having our daily coffee after we had walked Aubrey. He had the idea of having a team of Celtic dogs marching in the street parade which marks the opening of the Berry Celtic Festival. Our little team is slowly growing. Last year we were joined by Scotties and Westies and this year we will be joined by some Irish Wolfhounds, Irish Terriers, Scotties and Westies. We will assemble at 9.15 a.m. in front of Abbey’s Restaurant,13 Prince Alfred St, Berry. The street parade will start at 9.30 a.m. and proceed along the main street to the Berry Showground – not a long walk – and then you will be able to watch the festival activities. The festival normally finishes around 3.30 p.m. when the air starts to get rather chilly. Do let me know if you would like to join us for a lovely day out. Entry to the festival is free for those who march in the street parade. My contact details are:

Finnegan on the grooming table Finnegan Byrne was a model at the Grand Masters Groomers Conference Pro Groom 2016 Seminar, held in Sydney at Rydges Hotel in Camperdown, 16-18 April 2016. Finnegan was groomed by the directors of Pro-Groom:

Jody Murphy, USA. Jodi is recognised as one of the grooming industry’s leaders. She is a speaker, contest judge and demonstrator traveling nationally and internationally sharing her knowledge and skills. Her passion is to educate groomers throughout the world; and

Sharon Hall (Snuggle Pooch, South Nowra). Sharon Hall, Certified Master Groomer is a Director of International Grooming Company formed by herself and Deb Ryan with the goal of being able to provide education and knowledge to people wanting to improve their skills or business within the pet grooming industry with nationally recognised courses.

Sharon has been Aubrey's groomer since we arrived in the Shoalhaven in 2010 and has always done a lovely groom on him and taken care of him. It is very important to have a groomer that your dog likes. Here are a couple of photos of Finnegan - before and after the event. A very stylish and understated groom. Thank you Sharon and Jodi.

On Friday, 18 March the Club held its 2016 Championship Show at in conjunction with the 2016 Sydney Purina Royal Dog Show. Our dogs were judged by Judge Dr Annukka Paloheimo (Finland).

It was a great day and thank you to all those who supported the show; the members; Nikki Smith, for organizing the shows; Lori Ann Davis for doing the Catalogue.

And special thanks to Liz and John Brodie, Jenny Maartens and Trevor Eade and Bronwen Keiller and Tienus van Jaarsveld, who were part of the cheer squad for our dogs.
