• Large colorless crystals or as a coarse, crystalline powder
• Deliquescent in moist air
• Effloresce in dry air at temperature above 33˚C

PREPARATION• Charcoal is
obtained by incomplete combustion of wood out of contact air, the residue left being composed of almost pure carbon

• Charcoal is usually inactivated by heating 500˚C to 900˚C in the presence of steam (known as activation)
