UNDERSTANDING SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

Definition: Scientific Study of Man’s behavior in an organization. Its thrust focuses on how he/she relates, interacts or transacts with the society. Interaction in the society is taken in as a form of Socialization.

SOCIALIZATION: Is the phenomenon where an individual acquires a repertoire

of social behavior as a member of a social community. It is in this perspective that the individual unfolds himself to a demanding community or society for him to fit in through the norms or mores (Something that is socially acceptable to the society). Socialization needs Internalization and Assimilation into the system through external rules and norms that become part of us and due to process of Identification wherein we start to initiate or follow.

TYPES OF IDENTIFICATION:

Analytic : Identifying with someone who gives you warmth and affection.

Defensive : Identifying with someone with strong personality with whom you do not like much. Identifying with the aggressor in order to estimate his /her behavior.

: Absence of Socialization leads to Anarchy!

ATTITUDE

The direction and intensity of affect of an individual towards a psychological object (person, things, places, phenomenon, and abstract components.

Components:

Affective and Cognitive: Emotional Loading (emotions/value), idea and comprehension of the object

Behavioral : Attitude toward the object

1. Propaganda : “Brainwashing”2. Behaviorism: “There must be a proper introduction of the extrinsic motivation /

motivators to reach intrinsic components through the use of reinforcement (punishment and reward systems)”.

: BF Skinner: Parents must provide the correct and appropriate reinforcement s to reach a desired behavior because the parents serve as influential in the cognitive formation since they are the providers of the needs of the child.

is LEARNED Is learned in the process of interaction

and communication with other persons. That the principal part of learning take

places within intimate personal group. The criminal learns the techniques of

executing crimes, its motives, drives and rationale.

The learning method may modify in duration, frequency, intensity and priority.

Both parents must have the same cultural backgrounds.

There must be a physical and psychological normality.

There must be functional adequacy.

•Home w/ criminal parents•Home in w/c there are unsatisfactory relations be of domination, favoritism, severe neglect, jealousy, step parent and interfering relatives•Home socially or normally maladjusted because of difference of race, religion, or common law marriages.•Home in w/c one parent is afflicted w/ physical or mental disability.•Home under economic pressure due to underemployment or unemployment.
