Like many other events the last couple of months, this too was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these awards were still presented to the class of 2020 - delivered by mail. Congratualations to each and every students, and even though you were not able to accept your awards in front of family and friends, know that your hard work, dedication, and contributions to both your school and community have not gone unnoticed. Good luck in your future endeavours. Baby Adriel weighed 6 pounds 3.4 ounces, was 19.5 inches in length, and has black hair and brown eyes. He will join siblings Elias and Hazael at home. Iowa Specialty Hospital’s Maternity Center is located at its Clarion Campus. “Our OB department continues to grow!” shared Jennifer Mewes, OB Leader. “We are excited to continue to provide excellent care to our mothers and babies and look forward to what the future holds.” In 2019, Iowa Specialty Hospital delivered 426 babies which is the most ever delivered at the facility in one year and is well on its way to surpass that total. RBMS eighth graders honored with end-of-year virtual assembly BY KIM DEMORY EDITOR egeagle@goldfieldaccess.net Each year at the end of the school year, Robert Blue Middle School holds an awards ceremony. They recognize the accomplishments of their students over the course of the year, but they give special regcognition to the eighth grade class before they move on to the high school. “This is something different,” said RBMS Principal Scott Jeske as he addressed his students through a Youtube video on Friday, May 22. “We’ve never had a year like this before, and hopefully we’ll never have one like it again.” As each eighth grader’s picture appeared one-by- one on the screen, a short bio of their time at RBMS was read, including some favorite memories, the activities they participated in, and who their parents are. At the same time, on the left side of the screen rolled a collage of miscellaneous pictures of all RBMS students participating in school activities that occured during the 2019 - 2020 year...until COVID-19 shut them down early. Students receiving special awards included: Darci Anderson - The Eagle Spirit Award, presented to the person who has “found their wings,” and has overcome obstacles to shine and impact the school and student body. American Citizenship Award presented to two students in each grade who have shown exemplar traits of kindness and character throughout the year. 5th Grade - Jazsalene Gonzalez-Willard & Adrian Whipple. 6th Grade - Caitlin Christopher and Leonardo Gonzalez-Gamboa. 7th Grade - Monserrat Martinez and Natalie Pedersen 8th Grade - Dakota Alt and Jakob Jeske. Aaron Eilerts Award The Aaron Eilerts Award is given each year to a student who best exemplifies the characteristics of Aaron Eilerts, a boy who gave selflessly to others before his tragic death at Little Sioux Scout Camp in 2008. The award is voted on by the eighth grade student body with final determination of who receives the award left to the RBMS staff. This year’s recipient was Mack Morgan. Just a few of the things students wrote about Morgan in their nominations included, “You can trust him to do and accomplish anything without doubt,” “He’s very caring,” and “He respects other people’s opinions.” Presidential Award for Academic Achievement Eighth graders receiving the President’s Award for Academic Achievement have earned either a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average or tested in the 85th or higher percentile on standardized testing. 2020 eighth graders earning this honor included: Chloe Steil, Lili Huse, Olivia Anderson, Jolet Pinkle, Calli Steil, Lindsey Alcala-Mendez, Kaylynn Kepler, Nadia Kaiser, Jaclynn Demory, Grace Johnston, Clara Moffitt, and Brody Allen. Presidential Award for Academic Excellence To be eligible for the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, eighth graders must have maintained both a 3.5 - 4.0 grade point average and scored in the 85th percentile or above on Iowa testing all four years in middle school. Those earning that honor this year included: Jonathan Olson, Ava Kienzle, Brooklyn Osborn, Celeste Figueroa, Izabella Kreitlow, Mack Morgan, Justin Krog, Evan Thul, Connor Christopher, Natalie Slape, Justine Olson, Jakob Jeske, Alexis Brookhouser, Winter Rush, Dakota Alt, Emma Lalor, and Ayden Feske.
