OFFICERS Some of our MAJOR offices are coming to the end of there term.
Exchequer—term ends in October !!!
Seneschal—term ends technically in Nov Change over will occur in January
Letters of Intent for the offices of EXCHEQUER are due August 31st SENESCHAL are due October 15th
Additional offices that are open or excepting Letters of Intent. Youth Minister –an take over at any time ; must submit and pass a background check prior to stepping up. See the Seneschal for more information Chronicler—access to a computer is crucial—Office will be open as of January 2018
Archery Captain, Thrown Weapons Captain, and Assistances/deputies for most offices. If you would like learn how to do any of these jobs, an assistant/deputy is a good way to start and Learn from the current/main officer. We need your help in any way you can. Most of these job do not require a lot of time to do. So apply today! To send your letters of intent electronically – Send them to the Seneschal ([email protected]) and the Baronage ([email protected] & [email protected]) We will see that your LOI is forwarded on to the Current Officers that need a copy. WAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!! No? No war? You mean we’re not fighting anybody right now? What are we going to do with all our free time? Shall we suffer the brave warriors of Artemisia to lose their skills and wit during this time of peace? Of course not! Instead, LET US HUNT! In medieval times the hunt was a sport exclusive to royalty and aristocracy and was also an important part of court etiquette. Skill in hunting during peacetime was held akin to chivalric prowess in war. And of course hunting was very important in providing the assortment of game necessary for a nobleman’s table. The hunt was also a social event that could include a picnic feast, games, dancing, and shows of martial prowess. On the 14th day of October Anno Societatis 52 (2017) The August Barony of Gryphon’s Lair invites one and all to join in a day of feasting, games, learning, and above all the testing of skills against wily beasties of many kinds. And there will be prizes, pretty pretty prizes! (That got your attention, didn’t it?) The Crown will be announcing the next Baronage for the great Barony of Gryphon’s Lair. Come and join in the joy of the Hunt! Site: Mount Ogden Archery Range, Stoddard, UT. Site is located approximately 1257 West Old Highway Rd., Morgan, UT. Site opens at 9 am and closes at 8 pm. Site is wet. Site fees: Adult Event Registration fee: $13. Adult Member Event Registration fee: $8. Minors are free. Family cap is $16. Make checks out to SCA Inc., Barony of Gryphon’s Lair. Directions: Take your best route to I-84 Utah. Take exit 96 (Peterson/Stoddard). Follow the signs toward Stoddard, Utah. From the West, turn left, then at the “T” turn right. Less than a mile down the road you will see the range on your right. Turn right at the MOA gate. There will be signs. Alshshams wish to proclaim our intent to support the Kingdom by
taking the mantle of Baron and Baroness of Gryphon’s Lair.
We would love to serve the populace in this role in order to contin-
ue the prosperity and increase the strength of our Kingdoms lands.
We feel that after our years as members of the populace, we should
strive to contribute to the improvement and wellbeing of the Barony.
We also feel that we are suited to this task. We look for your ap-
proval to take on this role during the coming Gregorian years of
2018 through 2019.

This is our letter of intent to apply for the positions of Baron and Baroness of the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair. We bring a combined 57 years of experience in the SCA. many of those years as officers from across the spectrum and on many levels. Kingdom service in-cludes time spent as the Kingdom Herald and the Archer General. Experience at the lo-cal level includes time spend as Seneschal and Herald as well as deputy to the Exchequer, deputy to the Knights Marshal, deputy to the Minister of Lists, and deputy to the Minis-ter of Arts and Sciences. We are both well-versed in most aspects inner workings of the SCA.
For our modern counter parts, Eric Ward is a school psychologist. This training had giv-en him a unique perspective on interpersonal conflict and resolution. Georgia Foster is an Outdoor Recreation Planner in a complex field office for the Federal Govern-ment. This position has provided training and experience in conflict facilitation as well as experience working with the public. We are both stable in our careers and financially able to meet the demands of the office to which we are applying. We are both prior mili-tary service, and as such, we understand the Chain of Command, how it works and how to use it. We are also experienced in the receiving and disseminating of orders.
This unique combination of SCA and modern experience will serve us well should we be successful in this application.

Most Noble & Honored Gentles,
Please accept this letter as my intent to place myself into the polling for
Baron of Gryphon’s Lair.
I seek this noble office simply for the love I hold for this Barony. My desire
to see it flourish, grow and maintain long into the future.
I began in the Society for Creative Anachronism in 1986 in the Incipient
Shire of Sentinels’ Keep. I saw it grow from Shire to Barony as Gryphon’s
Lair did itself. I have traveled the Known World, and have participated
in many Kingdoms. My heart though, is in Artemisia. During my time in
the SCA I served as an officer to the Kingdom, Principality, Baronies and
Shires or as member of the court for 17 of those years. I helped lay the
foundations of our Kingdom and our Barony. It is an honor to maintain
the future of our Dream as well as helping others learn about and enjoy
our dream of the Current Middle Ages. I would embrace the challenges
and the joys of being the representative of the crown to, and of people of
Gryphon’s Lair.
