RESUMEN: E n e l s iglo XI X , los h ig ieni stas españoles descr ib ieron los e fec tos ne-

gat ivos de la industr ial ización sobre la salud y las condiciones de v ida

de l o s t r aba j adore s . Su s pr opue st as, f undam e n t adas e n u n c onc e p t o e n

apariencia neutral y c ient í f ico como el de salud, fueron bien acogidas

por

la burgues ía empeñada en la cons t rucc ión de l orden l iberal y en

apac iguar el en f renta miento soc ia l. E n e l presente t rabajo se t ra ta de
