Where Can I Get a Job?

Graduates of the B.S.W. program are prepared for entry-level, generalist social work

practice in a variety of settings, including hospitals, correctional facilities, public welfare

agencies, schools, child placement organizations, community centers and counseling

agencies.Amaster’sdegreeinsocialworkisrequiredforclinicalworkandistypically

requiredforpositionsinhealthandschoolsettings.

More than 50 percent of positions in social work are in health care and social service

industries, and about 30 percent are in government agencies. Social workers with

backgrounds in gerontology and substance abuse are particularly in demand.*

What Is Social Work?

Socialworkfocusesonimprovingthequalityoflifeanddevelopingthepotentialofeach

individual, family, group and community. Social work advocates for and serves the needs

of children and families, the poor or homeless, the mentally ill, persons with disabilities,

survivors of rape or domestic violence, persons with substance abuse concerns, veterans

and immigrants.

Social Work at UCF

UCF’sundergraduateprograminsocialworkleadstoaBachelorofSocialWork

(B.S.W.).Toenroll,prospectivestudentsmustfirstgainacceptancetoUCFandthen

gain acceptance into the B.S.W. program in the School of Social Work. The program is

accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Most students begin the social work program in their

junioryear.Thecurriculumincludesclassroomandfield

instruction. Students are exposed to the latest social work

theory and its application in a variety of settings. Seniors

in the B.S.W. program are eligible to apply for advanced-

standingadmissiontoUCF’sMasterofSocialWork

(M.S.W.) program.
