• Don’t overlook owned media (i.e. your website and newsletter).

• All roads should lead back to owned media.

• Create a strategy: who is your audience? What media to they consume? What are their buying habits?

• Make a plan: create a content schedule and start amassing a cache of content.

• Different organizations need different marketing tools.

• While Facebook is still the predominate social platform (especially here in the Wenatchee Valley) digital media consumers are becoming rapidly more varied in their social media usage/habits.

• Avoid biting off more than you can chew though. I advise starting with two and building out once you’ve gained your footing.

• The principles of social media are nothing new. Mark Granovetter’s work in the 70s is the basis of these theories.

• The best way to impact many people is by having a large network and then sharing novel content (i.e. viral content, or having the potential to go viral).

• Creating online advocates for your brand is an important step. People won’t believe you, but they’ll believe their friends.

W H Y D I G I TA L M E D I A M A R K E T I N G M ATT E R S• When’s the last time you used a phone book?

• This year, for the first time ever, millennials surpassed baby boomers in buying power. Think about the commercials you see on TV…

• Smart tech device use is at an all-time high and no one ever takes a step back in tech when getting a new phone.

• A business’ online reputation has a huge impact on revenue, whether companies want to admit it or not.
