Who am I?
Social Media - Definitions
• Social media essentially is a category of online media where people are talking, participating, sharing, networking, and bookmarking online.
• Social media includes the various online technology tools that enable people to communicate easily via the internet to share information and resources. Social media can include text, audio, video, images, podcasts, and other multimedia communications.
• Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one's business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals. While social networking has gone on almost as long as societies themselves have existed, the unparalleled potential of the Internet to promote such connections is only now being fully recognized and exploited, through Web-based groups established for that purpose.

• 40 million users worldwide (1m in NL)

• Mostly used on a personal level
• Now also a lot by companies (company pages)
• 44,5 million users worldwide (20 million in US)
• The usage of Twitter grew (1st semester 2009) up to 10,7% from the internet usage in the US.
• 75% from the US users are 25 or more years old.
• Very easy to start a blog with Wordpress (and free)
• Don’t need to be an IT expert
• But you need to have something to say...
