Below are some of our favorite business plan competitions for triple bottom line endeavors. An extensive

William James Foundation Socially Responsible Business Plan Competition

Due Date: Dec. 3, 2010

Focus: For-profit business plans with social and/or environmental objectives

Team: No restrictions

Prize: Cash prizes worth at least $10,000 will be offered, as well as in-kind prizes products and professional

services from sponsoring companies.

Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) from University of Washington

Due Date: Nov. 4, 2010 (8 am Pacific Standard Time)

Focus: Poverty in developing countries

Team: Teams may have non-student team members such as advisors and observers, but only student team

members are eligible to earn prize money.

Prize: GSEC Grand Prize ($15,000), GSEC Global Health Grand Prizes ($7,500 total), and GSEC Information

and Communication Technology (ICT) Prize ($10,000).

Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC)

US (Haas/Columbia) Region Executive Summary Deadline Jan. 19, 2011

Focus: Any social venture

Team: Each team must include at least one current or recently graduated MBA student.

Prize: Grand Prize ($25,000), the Second Prize ($10,000), the Third Prize ($5,000), and a $5,000 award to

the team with the most innovative and rigorous social impact assessment.

Social Impact Business Plan Competition from Duke University, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and

Growth Philanthropy Network
