What is Energy?
Mechanistic/Materialistic
o The property of matter and
radiation manifest as a
capacity to perform work
(causing motion or the
interaction of molecules)
o Strength and vitality
required for physical/
mental activity
o The ability to be active
Vitalistic
o Life force
o Vitality
o Qi
o Prana
o Kundalini

Sir Isaac Newton
o Born 25th December, 1642,
Lincolnshire, England
o Fascinated by chemicals at the
age of 15
o 1661 went to Trinity College in
Cambridge

Newtonian Physics
o Universe composed of
fundamental building
blocks
• The body as a solid
object
o Newtonian mechanics
successfully describe
motion
o 19th Century - world was
seen as a large machine
running according to
Newton’s Laws of
Physics

Field Theory
o Michael Faraday (1791-
1867) – first to produce
electric current from
magnetic field, discovered
effect of magnetism on light
o James Clerk Maxwell –
electromagnetic field theory
o Lead to the concept of the
universe filled with fields
• Create forces with each
otherBy Public Domain,

Relativity – Albert Einstein
o Born 14th March, 1879,
Germany
o Lived in Italy and moved to
Switzerland as a child
o 1901 - unable to find
employment as physics/
mathematics teacher
o 1905 – published Theory of
Special Relativity

Relativity – Albert Einsteino Theory of Special Relativity
• 4-D Space-Time, time is relative
o Linearity of events depends on the observer
o This requires us to rethink the way we describe ourselves
and the world around us
“I maintain that cosmic religious feeling is the strongest and
noblest incitement to scientific research.”

The Nature of Matter:
The Sub-Atomic World
o Newtonian physics: the world is made up of atomic
building blocks
o Sub-atomic matter exists only as a “tendency”
o Bohr: atoms = clouds of possibility
o Universe is a web, which always includes the observer
o Bell’s Inequalities: subatomic particles are connected
beyond space and time
• That which happens to one particle immediately affects other
particles
• Effects are faster than the speed of light

Implicate Order
Dr David Bohm
o Manifest reality
exists on the
foundation of
“implicate enfolded
order”
o The physical world is
a dynamic whole

the worldBy Original uploader Karol Langner

concept?
o What are some similarities in the science of energy
and the science of mind and emotions studied in
the last session?
Other food for thought:o What do you find personally is the hardest concept
to grasp amongst those presented in Part 1 of this
session?

Revision Questions
o How does HEF theory go beyond what the science
of today knows?
o What are the main functions of the chakras?
Other food for thought:o How have scientific views influenced our self-
concept?
© Endeavour College of Natural Health www.endeavour.edu.au 30
The Role of Intention
o Intention: purpose, aim, or objective; the choice to act in
a certain way
• Targeting your thoughts
• Thoughts affect physical reality
o Tiller: direct thought produces demonstrable physical
energy, even over remote distances
o Thoughts can affect the ANS of another person
o Affects physical, mental and emotional realms
o Healing energy appears to arise in the Dan Tien
(anatomically near the 2nd chakra, below and posterior to
the navel)
© Endeavour College of Natural Health www.endeavour.edu.au 31
Energy Medicine
o Healing that alters the subtle
flow of energy within and
around an organism/ person
(energy field)
o Involves:
• Person receiving energy
healing
• The healer
• Energetic techniques
o There are two types:
• Biofield therapies
• Bioelectromagnetic therapies

Biofield TherapiesQi Gong:
o Component of Chinese Medicine that combines
movement, meditation, and controlled breathing
Reiki:
o Practice of transmitting a Universal energy to a person,
either from a distance or by placing their hands on or
near that person
Healing Touch:
o Practice of consciously using the hands in a heart-
centered and intentional way to support and facilitate
physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health
© Endeavour College of Natural Health www.endeavour.edu.au 33
Bioelectromagnetic Therapies
o Electro-acupuncture: use of electrical current
in combination with acupuncture needles to
stimulate flow of qi
o Pulsed electro-magnetic field therapy: use
of electromagnetic fields to stimulate healing of
damaged tissues
o Vega testing: use of electromagnetic fields as
a diagnostic tool
© Endeavour College of Natural Health www.endeavour.edu.au 34
Other Energy Healing Practices
o Crystal Therapy: use of various types of stones
to transduce, amplify and focus energy, often as
an augmentation of other energy therapies
o Light/Colour Therapies: using different
frequencies of light/colour wavelengths to restore
balance
o Distance Healing: use of intention of one or
more persons to interact with physiological,
psychological, behavioural state of one or more
living distant systems
© Endeavour College of Natural Health www.endeavour.edu.au 35
Crystal Therapy
o Use of stones (crystals or gems) for their healing properties
o Historically used by Native American, European, and Pacific
shaman as well as being widely used in Ayurveda through
prescription of wearing certain gemstones on specific fingers

Crystal Indications and ApplicationsCrystal Therapeutic Use
Amethyst Calming, protective stone
Aventurine Heals heart pain. Good for balancing yin and yang energies.
Smoking, addictions.

Light/Colour Therapy
o Light sensors:
• Eyes = light enters the body
• Pineal gland = light sensitive
• Acupoints = allow light to enter
meridians and change their
voltage
o Often effective in treating
depression, mental and
emotional problems, seizure
disorders, memory problems,
concentration, and attention
o Colour therapy uses different
frequencies of light to restore
balance

Distance Healing
o The intention of one person
can influence the health of
another person, even if that
person is at a distance from
the healer
o Some terms for distance
healing: intercessory prayer,
spiritual healing, non-
contact TT/HT, non-local
healing, non-directed prayer

Revision Questions
o How does intention affect healing?
o Describe three energy healing therapies.
Other food for thought:o Have you ever experienced any sort of energy
healing? If so, what effects did you perceive? If not,
what type of energy healing would you be
interested in experiencing?
