What does the Sno-Valley Senior Center mean to it’s members and participants?

“Thank you so much– we are both spoiled at the wonderful food we get each day.”

"Just wanted to tell you how wonderful the Thanksgiving lunch was today. What a great thing the senior center is doing. Besides good food it’s so great that they are delivered especially to the elderly. Mom looks forward to seeing Kerry when he delivers. He’s super good with her too. With all the crap going on in our country right now it’s a bright spot in her day. Thanks so much for all the center is doing to help and in return helping the center.”

The Coronavirus has hit senior citizens especially hard as they shelter at home, feeling isolated and alone. But the Sno-Valley Senior Center, with your support, gave a lifeline to seniors sheltering in place. Here are just a few of the ways you've helped fund Community Connection for older adults. - Connection and friendships formed with student pen pals, Zoom classes, daily puzzles w/ meals, books & jigsaws provided. Letters and phone calls exchanged. Connections made! - Physical Fitness Classes including Move it Mondays & Chair Yoga on Zoom and Facebook Live helped keep us fit and healthy. - Nutrition: Food is the ultimate connector, a hot, made-from-scratch meal for either pick-up or delivery. Meals on Wheels continued and Pet food was available. - Mental Health included calls & visits, support groups, Aging Mastery Course and one-on-one counseling. - Home Sweet Home provided safety and minor home repair volunteer help.

2020 Grants: Fitness: Get Active Stay Active Grant

from King Co. Parks and Recreation funded our virtual fitness classes.

Art: 4Culture funded painting classes including a zoom instructor and paint supplies.

Meals: Grants funded our hot homemade meals for pick up and delivery. Grants received from: Safeway, Albertsons, Whole Foods, Rotary Club of Duvall, Fred Meyer, Puget Sound Energy, Seattle Foundation, Harvest Against Hunger Farmer’s produce, City of Duvall and City of Carnation.

Numbers We served 12,070 meals for pick-up and delivery, a 40% increase

over the meals served in 2019 We delivered 1,897 frozen Meals on Wheels to local

seniors We received 210% more donations than in 2019 We received $111,711 in grants! Three times more than the

previous year (includes $ from Cares Act, County & City)

FESH: (Far East Senior Hub) a partnership with the Issaquah Senior Center and Mt. Si Senior Center formed by the King Co. VSHSL (Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy) leads to increased services in the valley and more outreach to isolated rural seniors. Partners include: - Chai & Conversation with IACS (Indian-American Community Services) - Kinship Care for Grandparents raising grandchildren - GenPride with programs for Rainbow Elders (LGBTQ) - SeaMar with programs for Spanish speaking seniors

Revenue: Bad News: Re-in-Carnation Thrift Store was not open from March to November, there were no facility rentals, no program revenue and most of our fundraisers were cancelled. Good News: - Individual donations were up thanks to YOU! Increased number of grants received - King Co. Levy funds unaffected - PPP (Payroll Protection Loan) received and will be forgiven - Cares Act funds received for increased costs for the meal program. Thank you King County, City of Duvall and City of Carnation!

Expenses: - Staffing levels stayed the same. Thrift Store Manager Angie pivoted to assisting in the kitchen which didn’t have volunteers until fall. - Meal program expenses increased with need for to-go boxes and additional gloves and masks. - Most expenses unchanged.

Bottom Line: thanks to the PPP loan, we will finish the year with an excess of $73,475 to be reinvested into senior center
