Yesterday saw Donvale PS, a ’KidsMatter’ School hold its official launch of the

initiative in our school with a ‘Wellbeing Day’ culminating in a wonderful

community ‘Welcome BBQ’ during the evening. Throughout the day, the

children were engaged in a plethora of activities that supported their physical,

emotional and social wellbeing. As I wandered through the school during the

day, I saw the children very much engaged in their activities, quietly chatting,

smiling and enjoying each other’s company. It was wonderful to see.

We welcomed St Kilda football legend, Lenny Hayes, who officially launched

the day. We were indeed very fortunate to have the support of such a wonderful

sporting role model. It was great to hear how he has focused his life on being

positive with his outlook on all he does and of how he sets himself small

achievable goals rather than one large goal which often can be too difficult to

achieve. We are very grateful to Lenny for taking the time to visit us and share in

our very special day.

During the day, our children enjoyed participating in activities such as team

building games, making stress balls and calm bottles, loom bands, newspaper

pots, gardening, parachute games, just to name a few… We even indulged in

some hand and head massage, yoga exercise, yummy fruit skewers and ‘free

hugs’ from our SRC. Brian from Ignite Health and Fitness came along and

conducted some fitness games with our level 1 / 2 students; Ruby and Flump,

therapy dogs visited every classroom to bring some more joy to our day. The

staff was also treated to an amazing morning tea presented to us by members of

our parent community. Thankyou soooooooooo much for thinking of us!

While we enjoyed the activities and had a day of fun and excitement, we

remember that the message through Kids Matter is that we seek to instil in our

of adversity. At some stage in our lives, we all face some degree of pain,

hardship, sadness and anxiety. It is important that our children learn to cope

with such conditions and to become strong and resilient young citizens of our

guitar and George Jaeggi on harmonica. Staff members, Rick Gordon, Meagan Wilson, Ian McKinlay, Anthea

Keep, Peter Reiter and Ethan O’Connor – thank you for sharing your talent with us. Also many thanks to

Peter Gray who always supports us with his sound and lighting expertise - making everything look so

professional.

Thank you to the many families who joined us last night helping make our Wellbeing Day even more special. It

was a terrific way for us all to get together, relax and take the time to get to know each other a little more.

Donvale PS is such a great community and its days like yesterday that we really get to see just how great we are

together!

A day like yesterday doesn’t just happen. Many hours of hard work and preparation by many people went into

the planning of the day. Firstly, I would like to thank the very hardworking staff of Donvale PS who always

pulls together with such positivity and enthusiasm to have a go at providing new and different learning

opportunities for our students. A big thank you to our Kids Matter Action team, in particular Lashay

Cartledge, Bec Signorini and Meagan Wilson for their strong leadership and passion in delivering this initiative

to our school.

Donvale PS is known for its very supportive community and without them, the Wellbeing Day would not have

been as brilliant as it was. The staff of Donvale PS would sincerely like to thank all our parent helpers in

particular, Lawrie and Karl Spooner, Jaqui Frigo and Jenni Raftopoulos. Big thanks also to Liz Brown, Liang

and Martin Dimitroff, Kim Merton, Loula Tarenidis, Donna Moulton, Janine Negri, Janene Innes and Marina

Younger. Also a huge thank you to the members of our Parents Association, particularly Jo Wood, who always

manage to organise the best BBQ’s. My apologies if I have left any one out – I know it was such team effort

with so many more parents involved in the day - You are all wonderful!

We recently went through the nomination process for our School Council 2015. I am pleased to announce the

newest members of our School Council joining us. They are George Condos (Parent Rep), Bahman Shabani

(Parent Rep) and Meagan Wilson (DET rep). We welcome all our new members and thank them for their

interest and passion in working with us to ensure that Donvale PS continues to move forward and provide the

best teaching and learning opportunities for our children. We are very much looking forward to another very

productive year.

School Council members for 2015 are:

Lena Clark, Ian McKinlay, Samantha Jones, Victoria Erskine-Behr, Meagan Wilson, Marita Warner, Russell

Waycott, Marina Younger, Evan Raftopoulos, George Condos and Bahman Shabani.

Our AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 18th March 7.00pm. Our new School Council will meet at 7.30pm.

With great thanks to Carlisles Homes, parents Michelle and Mathew Bishop and our very supportive

community, we now have new shade sails installed for the senior play ground. The $10,000 grant received has

been put towards the much needed shade sails. I’m sure you will all agree that this is a fantastic result for our

school. Shade sails are also now installed over the junior play equipment and the passive play area. I’m sure

you’ll agree that the school is looking fantastic!

Hope you are having a wonderful week.

District Swimming Sports:

Last Friday 20th February the Doncaster Swimming Sports were held at the Aquarena swimming pool. Our

2015 swimming squad is to be commended for the exemplary manner in which they represented our school. It

was great to see the encouragement and support they gave to each other in their respective events. They had a

lot of fun too. Tommy W deserves a special mention for winning the 11’s Boys Butterfly and Breastroke

events. He will now participate in the Division swimming carnival to be held on Thursday 5th March. The

following students are to be congratulated for finishing second in their events.

Freestyle – Kate B, Tommy W, Leah B

Breastroke – Nadia S

Backstroke – Callum S

The 11’s Boys’ relay team put in a stirling performance to claim third place in an exciting race. A special

mention to Samuel M who swam a fine third leg for Tommy W to bring the team home.

Mrs Erskine-Behr, the parents who attended and myself were extremely proud of all the efforts of our Donvale

swimmers. Congratulations to the 2015 Swimming Squad which is listed below.

**A reminder for Daisies that they will need to change their tops for this game.

Diamonds will be training in the GP room on Tuesday the 3rd of Mar.

Daredevils played an amazing game to win 6-1. The whole team put enormous effort in. A big congratulations

to Oliver M for getting his first 2 points from the free throw line!

The Daisies lost 52 to 4 against a very strong OLOP team.

The Under 11 Girls played the Donvale Derby this week. Daffodils had a strong win, with the girls showing

their experience and skills, especially when shooting and on a fast break. Thanks to Scarlett for filling in this

week. Diamonds played a great game despite the scoreline, with significant improvement in their team play and

reading of the game after just three weeks of the season. A hard game for the supporters....go Donvale!

Please remember to pay your Team Manager the game fees or your child will be ineligible to play.

A reminder that sport shoes must also be worn by players when training at the DISC and food and drink is to

be kept off the court area.

We are still recruiting – especially BOYS who are born in either 2005 or 2006 to join our squad of U11’s. We

currently have 10 boys playing in U11and if we can recruit 4 – 6 more, we can split into two teams. Please

contact Marita Warner or Cassandra Buckle for more information.

OSHClub News

Before School / After School Care Program

Program Update

Dear families,

This week at OshClub we have been doing lots of different crafts, games and cooking activities. Our

highlights from the week include making our own masks and creating loom band bracelets. We also have

been working on a giant poster with information about our different cultural backgrounds and have been

talking about family traditions. We would love to celebrate everyone’s cultural background so if you have a

favourite family recipe or tradition please bring it in and share it with OshClub!

Once again, special welcome to our new OshClubbers, especially all our new Prep students. New parents and

students: Please feel free to drop in at any stage to orientate yourself with the program and to meet the staff

before your first day at OshClub.

Remember to bring your hats everyday as we follow “No hat, no play” policy in Term 1.

Thanks,

Kate

Remember bookings can be made right until 12pm the night before, or you can book on the day by calling or leaving the text mes-

sage but there will be an extra charge of $3.00 for bookings within 24 hours. If you’re ever stuck and would like your child to at-

tend OSH After School Care you can call me or leave a message on 0402 362 443 and I will get back to you. For some reason if
