Background• Smoking (nicotine dependence) is a disease according
to International Disease Coding System.Health care providers have the primary responsibility to quit smoking or prevent relapses in ex-smokers or non-smokers.
• The patients should be questioned for their smoking history in all health care services.
• Only asking smoking history by a physician, gives 3-5% abstinence rate for one year.
