Introduction and Contribution
Traffic congestion, jams Long travel times Pollution
Our contribution:Provide a support tool that allow traffic managers to take real traffic conditions and compute optimal holistic TLPs using bio-inspired techniques and micro-simulations
Traffic Lights Plan (TLP): assignment of the time span for each phase in the sequence of all intersections at an urban area

Conclusions and Future Works
A new decision support tool, named HITUL, for Traffic Control Centers, has been developed
Additional facilities for making easier the decisions of traffic managers: Comparison between traffic plansHighlighting the importance of each individual TL in the final planAbility to restrict the zone to be considered, the traffic profile, main goal…
We have tested the system in Malaga, a medium-large city, demonstrating real support for decision makers regarding the planning of the city traffic
As future work:Extend the study to other cities (different networks topologies and traffic densities)Apply new optimization algorithms (including hybrid approaches)More work on data analysisIntegration with other systems that provide us with more city data in real time (e.g. based on sensors) for more accurate solutions
