Two Metaphorical Truths

1) As a small bridle controls an enormously larger horse…so our small tongue controls much of

our lives.

2) As a mammoth ship is directed by a seemingly insignificant

rudder…so our lives are directed by our seemingly

insignificant tongue.

An Implication of the Metaphors

As the horse needs a trainer to learn how to respond to the

bridle rightly, and as the ship needs a captain to steer the

rudder rightly so… we also need a master who alone can tame the tongue and that master is

the Spirit of God.

A Sinful Characteristic of the Tongue

Apart from the Spirit’s control, our tongues will naturally seek

to elevate & protect self.
